When you refer to a "twist" in New York City, what exactly are you implying?

By twist, I mean the specific moment where the film effectively "tricked" me—I was anticipating one type of resolution, but the actual conclusion (flipping through the album) caught me completely off guard.

Broadly speaking, my definition of a plot twist is this:
an unexpected shift in events that deviates from the standard trajectory one would anticipate based on the established setup.

As for the album bit, I view it as the director’s way of providing further context regarding everything that character did to impact the protagonist. Otherwise, simply discovering that he was the one responsible for his sister's death would have sufficed as a twist in its own right.
