I haven't really had any bad luck—well, except for this one guy who ran a video rental shop (not the one from the previous thread, mind you) who kept trying to pass off bootleg tapes as originals... the stereo and quality were absolute garbage... but honestly, my experience was actually the exact opposite of what this thread is about:
The wife of the owner of this old neighborhood video store—which, sadly, isn't around anymore—had the exact same taste as me... seriously... I can't remember a single damn time I picked a movie based on her recommendation that wasn't a total hit...
She’d even talk me out of stuff I grabbed, like, "Nah, that's not actually good... grab something else instead..."
Then later, I'll go to some other rental place, pick a movie, hate it... and then I'll think back...
There were times I'd walk into the shop and she'd be like, "Hey, I've got a few new ones for you..." I'd just grab two or three without even checking, and they were all awesome...

Oh yeah, she was basically the only woman I ever met who actually watched and understood what makes a horror movie good...

Look, I know her. She was actually really sweet. But she was with some guy for a long time—I have no clue if they’re still together. At first, when she showed up, I thought she was a total klutz, but it turns out she’s actually awesome. Ever since that theater closed down, I’ve been completely burnt out on movies. It’s not like the selection was groundbreaking or anything, but still...

We used to have a great one around here too; my friend and I would hang out inside for an hour at a time just chatting with her.
Then she moved on 😢
And this thin, blonde girl came in instead, claiming she couldn't even bring herself to watch the remake of The Exorcist because it was way too terrifying ☕

Some guy just stared at me blankly and admitted he had zero clue what movie "Collateral" even was. Then, a few days ago, when I asked if they had any Hitchcock, he told me the only thing they had was "Citizen Kane" somewhere in there.
The only upside? I didn't realize Citizen Kane was even an option at some of these theaters.
Total fail on their part!

Right?
That’s exactly how I felt too. Like, the first time you see her, she seems a bit lost, but then you're just dying to sit down and have a real conversation with her, haha 😬

Oh, man, I almost stopped borrowing movies from that old defunct rental shop back in the day... I can't even remember if "The Bug" is still around, or whatever that place in Manhattan was called... 😕

It felt the same way to me. At first, she seemed a bit lost, but then you're just dying to strike up a conversation with her, haha 😬

Oh, and I almost stopped renting movies altogether once that old local video shop went under... I'm not even sure if "Chatter" is still around, or whatever that place on Manhattan was called.. 😕

hey Chicago

I haven't rented much since that rental place closed down either. I remember that blue-haired girl too, she was always such a character... she definitely didn't give me the best movie recommendations, lol

So, here’s something totally bizarre...
A few years back, I rented a "Type 2" (terrible movie, by the way) from this local video rental place. The guy hands me the case with the tape inside, and I head home.
I get home, plop down on the couch, turn on the VCR, and open the case—and man, the thing was crawling with ants! 😲 Not just a couple of strays, either. It was a full-on freaking colony, eggs and everything, with those little winged ones too, just millions of them swarming all over the tape. 😲 🤮
My instinct was just to chuck the whole box and the tape the second I opened it... Once I finally snapped out of it, I took the box out to the balcony and dumped that crap out... The tape actually worked fine.

I have zero clue how, HOW, an entire ant nest ended up inside that plastic case... ugh, gross...

Too bad the movie wasn't them! 🤣 🤣

It’s nothing unusual, really. One time at a beach house, I found a whole nest of some kind of cockroach inside a box of rice.

It’s all good though. I once found a literal nest of roaches inside a box of rice while I was out on vacation at the beach.

😵 🤮
I honestly can't stand swarms of bugs—ants, roaches, beetles, whatever... just gross. 😳

I have a general aversion to swarms of insects—ants, cockroaches, beetles, you name it... just gross.😳

You aren't alone. I feel the exact same way. It's revolting.

Honestly, she couldn't have given better advice even if she wanted to, considering there weren't many decent options on the table anyway. Personally, I always liked the owner. She’d always throw in a free piece of candy for me.🙂

I feel like I’m constantly running into absolute idiots at the local video rental shop. One time, I actually got banned from borrowing anything because of some mistake they made—but honestly, that’s a whole other saga...🙂
Every single time I go in, some girl starts badgering me about what to watch. "Have you seen this one?" "How about this?" "Oh, you *have* to see this!" Look, I just want a moment of peace to actually find something I'm interested in... I don't get it. Does anyone really think their taste is universal? Like, if she thinks a movie is a masterpiece, does that mean we all do? Because it certainly doesn't for me...
And that’s not even the worst part. Once, she asked me about a movie I would never, under any circumstances, rent, then proceeded to suggest another terrible one, then a third... You honestly wouldn't believe how exhausting people like that can be. Just step back!!
If you actually want to be helpful, maybe take a quick glance at my rental history first, and please—for the love of God—don't try to pitch me some flick starring fucking Steven Seagal, Kurt Russell, or whatever else is on that bargain bin shelf...
Oh, and yeah... I think I already mentioned this in another thread. I noticed a few titles were shelved pretty weirdly, so I asked her why the genres were such a mess. She told me it's because people rarely touch the drama section, so those movies just sit there unrented. But if that exact same movie is tucked away in the thriller or action section, suddenly everyone is renting it. It's not because they suddenly developed a taste for drama; it's just because they happen to stumble upon it there—whereas everyone seems to treat the drama aisle like it's radioactive... (Mind you, I'm not blaming the staff here, clearly; I'm talking about the patrons who only stick to certain aisles🙂).

I’ve heard all about those clinic waiting rooms too... women are generally way more high-maintenance. Honestly, I felt bad enough just working a light shift over someone, and I know for a fact it would have rubbed me the wrong way if I were in their shoes.
But look, it’s simple. Some people just want to get in and out. They spend thirty minutes or even an hour stuck there, and they just want to wrap things up so they can go home, hang out, mess around, or—God forbid—actually study for an exam.

I remember this one guy who sat in the waiting room for an hour just to deal with some minor issue, then walked out and actually said "thank you."
Unbelievable!
Anyway, man, regarding this blog of yours 🙂

Man just gathered up all his stuff and was like, why on earth would I pay money for adult content anyway?
