Handbrake subtitle issues

I've been using Handbrake, but I'm running into an issue with my subtitles.
Basically, I load them up and everything seems perfectly aligned following this method:
but once the conversion is finished, the subtitles just don't show up at all.😕
Does anyone have a recommendation for a different program that handles this more smoothly?
Or am I perhaps doing something wrong with this software?

Make sure you actually toggle the subtitles on.
They're probably already baked in there, but you’ve gotta manually enable them.

BTW, this software won't touch subs unless they aren't just an .idx file.

You need an .srt. Honestly, when I tried converting my subs to .srt earlier, the formatting turned into a total mess.

The issue is that it isn't recognizing the subtitles; they just aren't being embedded at all.
Any suggestions for a good subtitle converter?

Maybe give it a shot using SubRip (.srt) or Subtitle Edit to get those subtitles into an .srt format. Just make sure you name them exactly the same as the movie file and drop them into the same folder as the video, and you should be all set.
Handbrake will pick them up automatically on its own.

I’ve got some SubRip (.srt) files ready to go, but when I try playing them through VLC Media Player, the subtitles are lagging behind by almost a full minute—it's a total mess. If I take my video file, run it through Handbrake to burn it onto a DVD, and include these lagging subtitles during the process, am I just going to end up with a finished DVD where everything is still out of sync? Or is there a way to actually get it working right?

Man, you've gotta sync them up with the video using Subtitle Edit first. Only then can you burn them onto the disc with the movie.

Does anyone know how to get Handbrake to burn in
subtitles at the end of a conversion so that characters like accented vowels actually show up correctly? I'm trying to select the EASTEUROPIAN CHAR_SET and

So, I’ve been messing around with this older version of Windows Movie Maker—not even the latest build, just some legacy version from a while back 🤔—but the thing is, it actually "pulls" the subtitles in directly. As long as you get your DirectShow settings dialed in just right, you don't have to deal with any of that annoying "syncing" nonsense because the software handles the whole process itself.

I took a DivX file that was only about 698 MB and turned it into a full-blown DVD file somewhere between 2 GB and 2.4 GB, complete with all the subtitles, audio, and video intact 😁. Honestly, there's no noticeable drop in quality at all; you just have to know how to tweak the settings properly. (Man, I spent 36 grueling hours wrestling with this until I finally cracked the code—forget manuals and help files, they're practically useless sometimes!) 😬

Once I actually find a spare moment in my schedule, I'll put together a proper tutorial for you guys.

I’m running into a massive wall where I can't even get through a conversion
because my computer just dies on me at about 14% progress, like it's shutting itself down
out of nowhere. Does anyone actually know what might be causing this?

It’s most likely your CPU. That software is pretty demanding, and if you have anything else running in the background, you're toast. Grab a tool like Prime95, run a stress test, and keep an eye on your core temperatures. You'll see—once that processor overheats, the PC kills itself. Same goes for your GPU...

As for subtitles, as far as I know, that program only supports .srt and .sub formats. Nothing else. It shouldn't be a huge deal though; just use Subtitle Workshop to "Save As" and convert them to .sub or .srt. Another possibility is that the subtitle file itself is corrupted. If this keeps happening, just find a different program. Yours clearly has some kind of bug...
