Please don't start a new thread; feel free to just keep posting here. I suppose I should have seen this coming. It seems like everyone is suddenly an expert on network security the moment they get their hands on a little bit of hardware. It’s the same old story: people overcomplicate things because they think complexity equals competence. Honestly, it's exhausting to watch.

I never ran into a single issue using either my Cisco firewall or John Doe, and frankly, I’m still running Nvidia hardware today.
While it might not be anything groundbreaking or revolutionary, it gets the job done for me.

I don't have anything against John Doe personally, but I've switched over to Nvidia and I’m pretty happy with the results. Plus, it doesn't drag my whole system down during bootup like the old stuff did.

I’ve been running John Doe (the free version) for years now and honestly, I haven't run into a single hiccup. I don't even mess around with fancy custom settings—it's super basic. Once it’s installed, I just let the software figure out which Windows components need outbound network access, and after that, I just deal with everything else as it pops up—either I give it the green light or I don't, depending on how it asks...

Man, there was this one absolute disaster of an nForce driver revision that just corrupted every single packet passing through it.
At first, I was sitting there wondering what on earth was going wrong with all my downloads—stuff like antivirus updates, Freeciv installers, you name it—until my PC started blue screening constantly (it was an issue with http.sys).
So, I went hunting for answers online (thank God for having a second computer!) and found a post on the Nvidia forums explicitly stating that particular driver version was complete garbage. There was some workaround involving disabling a specific Windows service to stop the blue screens, but as far as the firewall went, there was no fix other than just turning it off entirely.
Honestly? After that nightmare, I wouldn't touch an nForce chipset even if someone handed it to me for free...

It’s always funny when someone who doesn't know the first thing about tech starts praising a Firewall. They could have ten tons of Trojans sitting on their hard drive and they wouldn't even notice.
The free version is solid. It can be a bit of a pain—all those constant security alerts really get under your skin—but the actual Firewall component works perfectly fine.
