That’s why these "geniuses" offer a fix—conveniently packaged in capsules—claiming to solve the actual problem.😕 One can only assume... the only people actually profiting from such claims are the ones selling them.

Rachel Cook83 said:It all went down last week—the test results and my OBGYN’s suggestion that I should just live with it and manage the symptoms rather than actually addressing the root cause... etc.
So, I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with something similar... honestly, I'm still processing it.

I won't just sit here and accept this—not anywhere, not ever.

You're right—don't just settle—and for starters, find a new doctor. Thyroid issues can mess with your cycle too... Don't put off those tests!

Rachel Cook83 said:The Issue:

A while back, my regular period just vanished. Since then, I’ve been spotting almost every single day—nothing heavy like a real period, but it’s constant. It's been going on for months... it's driving me absolutely crazy.

Has anyone else dealt with this?

And if you have any idea what might be causing it, please let me know.

(I went to my OBGYN and they said my hormones and smears are totally fine. They suggested I start the pill to regulate everything, but I ameeeeeeenot doing that—at least not right now.)

Go see a different doctor.
Just because someone has an MD doesn't mean they actually know what they're doing.
There are plenty of bad doctors out there.

Rachel Cook83 said:I couldn't wrap my head around how she could claim all my hormones were fine when I have no clue what she was actually monitoring. She had me get blood work done three separate times—sent me off to do it repeatedly—for a mountain of tests, though I honestly don't even know what they were looking for. She did tell me I wasn't ovulating, though...

She suggested the pill just to stop the symptoms, specifically that daily spotting. But she couldn't give me a single actual reason why I was having these issues.

Oh, and since I’m not looking to have kids right now (given that my chances of conceiving are basically zero anyway), she told me we wouldn't be doing any more testing because, in her opinion, there was no reason to.

.
That doctor doesn't inspire much confidence in me.
Clearly, she hasn't a clue what's going on with you, so maybe just find someone else (hopefully someone with a solid recommendation).

I don't know... I just can't bring myself to trust that doctor. Something about her just feels off...
Look, honestly... she clearly hasn't got a clue what's actually going on with you. You might be better off just finding someone else—maybe ask around for a solid recommendation or something...

Why does everyone think the doctor has no clue about what "ovulation" even means? It seems pretty obvious to me that we're looking at PCOS here—the doctor nailed the diagnosis and handed over the right treatment plan. Honestly, the only real gripe you could have is that she didn't sit down and explain the whole thing to the patient... but come on, imagine dealing with someone in real life who just refuses to take their meds because they "don't feel like it." Every doctor struggles with people like that...

I once had a period that dragged on for 31 or even 32 days... and I'm not talking about light spotting here, but actual, full-on bleeding
as a reaction to Diane

quote: Just imagine someone in real life refusing their prescribed medication simply because they "don't feel like it." Any doctor would find dealing with patients like that incredibly difficult...

It seems we have to watch every word on this forum. It’s quite unfortunate. My comment about not wanting to take the pill apparently says everything there is to say about my character.
But regardless...

I appreciate the advice. My first step will be to have another serious conversation with my current doctor. If I don't get a satisfactory result or a clear explanation, then I'll look elsewhere. Last time we spoke, I was actually relieved that things weren't "terrible," so I didn't press her with all the specific questions I had. Regarding the pills, she told me the choice to take them is entirely mine.
My kidney levels are fine, by the way—that's why I had the blood work done.

The pill has serious side effects, so I guess Rachel Cook83 has a pretty valid reason for not wanting to take it.
In the real world, more people should probably be like Rachel Cook83 instead of blindly following whatever a doctor says.🙄

Yeah, for real—the pill stops ovulation and can completely wreck your cycle.

Honestly, Rachel Cook83, it would be such a shame if some random birth control pill messed up an otherwise perfectly regular and awesome cycle like yours... ☕

Seriously, Rachel Cook83, it would be such a tragedy if some random pill ruined your perfectly fine, lovely cycle. ☕

What’s the actual issue here?
The doctor should probably put in some real effort to find an alternative solution for Rachel Cook83, rather than just sending her home with a prescription and calling the problem "solved." 🙄
How terrible.😲

The doctor actually needs to put in some real work—like, find an alternative solution for Rachel Cook83—instead of just sending her home with a handful of pills and calling it a "fix."🙄
It's honestly pathetic...😲

So, what, you’d deny someone with hypothyroidism their basic hormone replacement therapy because it comes in pill form?

Or would you tell a diabetic they can't have insulin just because it's a hormone? Makes zero sense.

Look, we don't even know if Rachel Cook83 has a solid diagnosis yet—or maybe she does, but nobody's telling her. Neither of us knows the full story, so making claims like "pills will ruin her" or "pills are her only hope" is just straight-up guessing at this point... total speculation.

Well, if we’re going down that road... let's look at penicillin. It can have nasty side effects too—it's common knowledge that a significant number of people are allergic to it. By that logic, should I just refuse penicillin indefinitely? You never truly know; an allergy can pop up even if you've never had one before. And since we shouldn't blindly trust doctors, maybe I should just go see a witch doctor instead.
Everything can have serious side effects. Literally everything. If you start from that premise, you aren't going to get very far in life.

There’s no point in overanalyzing this further; rustymoose54 laid it out quite clearly enough in her post.

Or would you deny a diabetic insulin because, hey, it’s a hormone?

Rachel Cook83 doesn't have a solid diagnosis yet—or maybe she does, but she has no clue. Neither of us knows for sure. So, making claims like "pills will hurt her" or "pills are her only hope" is just pure guesswork at this point.

Well, that was the whole point: the doctor hasn't even given her a diagnosis.
The absolute first step should be finding the actual CAUSE.
And once that's settled, if there are multiple ways to treat a condition, the patient should have a say after the doctor lays out the pros and cons.
Why?
Because it’s HER body.

How could I possibly deny anyone anything?
My point was simple: if you think a doctor isn't competent, go FIND A DIFFERENT DOCTOR. Don't just blindly follow one person—especially when you don't trust them, which seems to be the case with Rachel Cook83 and this physician.

I'd be looking for a second opinion specifically because this doctor didn't explain anything or offer any alternatives.

Pills can be harmful, and if there are other treatment paths that might suit Rachel Cook83 better, she has every right to see all the options and get the full story.

🙄

Let's not be naive here. Most doctors just hand you a prescription and wave you out the door because they rarely have enough time to actually focus on a single patient.

How many times do people get pushed into unnecessary surgeries or prescribed useless meds just because the initial testing was lazy and the diagnosis was wrong?

Unless you're one of the lucky ones who actually landed a great physician, the only way to get decent care is to take matters into your own hands.

Plus, Western medicine tends to be incredibly dogmatic. They often dismiss natural herbal remedies, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, chiropractic care, and similar approaches—all of which could easily be considered valid options.

I once injured my back and spent an entire year seeing doctors. One kept sending me for kidney tests (???) and just piling on the painkillers, until I finally decided to take matters into my own hands (ON MY OWN) and see a chiropractor. My back pain was gone in a month.

Another example: my husband had stomach issues. One doctor diagnosed him with ulcers, another said acid reflux, then it was some other random thing... who knows. Everyone just kept prescribing pills that did absolutely nothing for six years.

Finally, he went out on his own (ON HIS OWN) to see a practitioner specializing in Chinese medicine and acupuncture. She put him on a specific diet with herbal supplements and weekly acupuncture sessions. Now, a year later, he’s fine. No more stomach problems.

Third case: about six months ago, my husband herniated a disc in his back.
The doctors gave him painkillers, sent him to physical therapy, ordered epidural steroid injections, and even prescribed ANTIDEPRESSANTS (???).
Nothing worked. So now, he has again taken matters into his own hands (AGAIN, ON HIS OWN) by seeing a chiropractor, and he’s already feeling better—even though his doctor is basically telling him to just accept it and learn to live with chronic pain.

😲
So, yeah. Blindly trusting doctors... 👎

If you really want, I can sit here and list every single instance where the alternative medicine crowd completely screwed up. The thing is, when they mess things up, the fallout tends to be way more catastrophic.

Unfortunately, yeah, even with all that medical green light shining on it.
I mean, I totally agree—you aren't going to fix these kinds of issues with just a handful of pills..
But sometimes, honestly, there just isn't any other choice, at least for a little while...
