hey

So, my gynecologist gave me a prescription for birth control pills after our first checkup last week, mostly just to get my cycle under control since that’s apparently a big deal at my age (I'm 16), and I finally picked them up. I'm supposed to start taking them soon, but now I can't help but wonder... how many of those scary side effects listed in the pamphlet are actually realistic? I guess I'm just feeling a little bit spooked by the whole thing..

I’m actually thinking about starting on birth control myself because a condom broke on us about a month ago. My OBGYN prescribed some emergency contraception—two pills a day for two days—but oh my god, I felt absolutely terrible 😲 😢 I was throwing up constantly.
Now I’m wondering, were those the same kind of pills you have to take every single day? Because if they are, there is zero chance I'm doing that. And were those side effects actually normal? Are there other options out there I could ask my doctor about? Help a girl out, I honestly have no clue what I'm doing here.😢

Why didn't you just ask these questions directly to your gynecologist? They’re the most qualified person to give you an actual answer, rather than asking people here who are mostly just laypeople.

Did you suddenly lose your voice? 😈

What you took back then was what we call the "morning-after pill," which is basically a high dose of estrogen and progestogen. For daily birth control, you get a much lower dose, so the side effects are usually far less intense.
Like any medication, oral contraceptives can have side effects. For most people, it's just temporary nausea, some bloating, potential weight gain, breast tenderness, or spotting, but these usually settle down after the first few cycles.
For anything specific regarding your health, you should ALWAYS consult your gynecologist.🙂

It sounds like you were taking the emergency contraceptive, or what most people call the "morning-after pill."

As for daily birth control pills... yeah, you have to take one every single day (except for that seven-day break you get).

So, I actually went ahead and asked my OB-GYN about it, and she mentioned that maybe—and I mean just *maybe*—I might experience some headaches, and if they get bad, I should probably give her office a call right away, though honestly, after reading through all those intense horror stories online...😢

As far as side effects go, I actually had one "perk" at first—my boobs definitely got bigger. I’ve been on Celestica for about six years now, and honestly, I’m seriously considering kicking the habit.
People always warn you about gaining weight, but I haven't put on a single pound. They say it clears up your skin, too, though I never really dealt with acne issues in the first place. On the flip side, cellulite seems to pop up faster... I have a little bit, but I can't say for sure if it's actually because of the pills.
The thing is, there are plenty of side effects, but only a handful of them are obvious enough to make you realize, "Oh, it's definitely this medication." 😉

I have to say, I’m actually quite fond of this whole thing with the eyelashes, it’s very 😁 , and honestly, I suspect I’ll be heading up to the top tier of society myself quite soon—though if I’m being perfectly honest, I suppose I might already be there...😳

I’ve been taking them too... I just deal with some nausea and that's the extent of it. None of those other horrific side effects people describe 🙏

As for breast size, maybe... from what I understand, rapid weight fluctuations can cause changes there, and some people might notice increased body hair or hair thinning. There are also sudden mood swings, though that’s pretty standard for women 😉
