Let’s be honest: this piece is poorly written and the subject matter is so muddy you can't even tell what the author is actually trying to say. But hey, I guess that still makes it better than 75% of the music coverage you find in the mainstream American media. Then we run into the issue of our pathetic club scene; aside from places like the legendary Bowery Ballroom, there isn't a single venue with a coherent, professional operation—not that the text even touches on it—but honestly, places like the Troubadour are totally screwed because they have zero actual programming. Our whole music scene is basically circling the drain, too. I mean, what is even happening if the supposed "fresh blood" is just bands like Ramirez and Elemental? Personally, I find Ramirez somewhat likable, but they feel like some Britpop cover band singing with American lyrics, and while Elemental absolutely kills it, they're really just a party band. And to top it all off, music journalists are the absolute peak of this godforsaken pyramid of uninspired, talentless, lazy, clueless hacks driven by nothing but personal agendas. They write without soul, without knowledge, and without any damn backbone. And on the rare occasion someone actually writes something with an actual opinion, it usually ends up being arrogant, inconsistent, or just blatant self-interest.
I mean, for starters, our "alternative" music journalists are either just terrible with words, or they're so incredibly jaded that they end up writing reviews for shows they never even attended, concerts that were canceled, or events they actually organized themselves... I mean, seriously, how can things get any worse when half of them are indirectly on the payroll of some major label? Or when you have people who somehow manage to be award show organizers, concert promoters, record label heads, journalists, and obnoxious critics all at the same time? To make matters worse, they write with this insufferable, condescending attitude.
