I really need some advice here. For about ten days now, my stomach has been killing me. The pain just wanders all over—sometimes right by my belly button, sometimes a bit above or below, left, right... it’s everywhere. On top of that, I feel this constant urge to run to the bathroom, maybe 6 to 12 times a day. It’s not full-blown diarrhea, but it’s a weird mix of hard and soft stools, usually with a ton of mucus, or just straight up mucus, mostly right after I eat. I went to the ER, and they said my bloodwork was okay, though I was slightly anemic (which makes sense since I was on my period for four days). They gave me some Immodium, which helped for exactly one day before everything went south again. Then I saw a gastroenterologist who put me on a specific diet and ordered tests for parasites, bacteria, and a fecal occult blood test. I won't get the results until Tuesday afternoon, but in the meantime, I am basically tethered to my toilet. I can't even leave the house.😢 My temperature has been hovering around 98.6 to 99.5...
I’ve spent way too much time Googling symptoms, and honestly, nothing I read actually fits what I'm feeling.
Has anyone else dealt with anything like this? Please help.🙏 🙏

My two cents: get some aloe vera immediately, seriously.

WHAT IT DOES:
- It acts as a heavy-duty detoxifier, which I find especially useful after finishing up rounds of medication or chemo since it helps kickstart the immune system again; it’s a solid preventative measure against cancer,
- It gives your metabolism a nudge because it's packed with potent enzymes that neutralize toxins released during digestion,
- It supports cellular nutrition and helps everything regenerate,
- It’s great for keeping your gut function steady thanks to the fermented properties,
- It works wonders for healing wounds and soothing issues like gastritis, excess stomach acid, or minor ulcers,
- It helps ease that uncomfortable bloating and swelling you get from digestive trouble,
- It can help manage high blood pressure and reduce swelling in your legs and extremities—I've found that drinking about a third of a glass can drop the pressure in just five to ten minutes,
- It assists in treating kidney and gallbladder stones,
- It provides a soothing, refreshing sensation for your throat,
- Since it contains provitamins A and PP, it's pretty much essential for maintaining healthy skin...

Nature and plants are all we really need; there is a certain quiet strength in botany. 👍

Where can I find that, what does it look like, and how much is it going to set me back? 👋

I've read up on every possible illness online, and nothing seems to fit perfectly.

I don't want to freak you out, but those sound like potential symptoms of ulcerative colitis. When you follow up with your doctor, definitely bring that up, because a lot of them don't even consider it. I live with it, and it took them two years to actually figure out what was wrong, though since cases are on the rise lately, doctors are getting better at spotting it. It's a type of inflammatory bowel disease. The hallmarks are frequent bathroom trips (doesn't always mean diarrhea; often it's just alternating consistencies), mucus and blood in the stool (though it doesn't have to be; I didn't see blood until a year into my diagnosis, and even now it's rare), painful cramping, and often anemia and a low-grade fever due to the inflammation. There's a link in my signature for a forum dedicated to ulcerative colitis and Crohn disease. If that's what this is, Loperamide isn't really the best way to handle it. Get back to the doctor as soon as you can and ask about it.

You’ll find various aloe vera products at health food stores or places like Whole Foods, but you really have to be careful about anything that comes with weird instructions—you know, those "take this for a week, then stop for a week" type of warnings. To me, that's just a red flag that there's synthetic junk mixed in; you should strictly look for something that is 100% pure... 🙂

If you're looking for the high-quality stuff, just shoot me a private message, because you won't find the good brands sitting on a shelf in a grocery store. 🙂

It reminds me of a client I used to work with who had severe allergies to almost everything; she couldn't even take standard over-the-counter painkillers. She once dealt with a stomach issue that left her vomiting for three or four days straight, along with some nasty ulcers, and I honestly couldn't believe how quickly her system stabilized after just five days of using the right thing. 🙂

It doesn't necessarily have to be ulcerative colitis, but there is definitely something going on in your intestines.
Given the sheer number of possibilities here—ranging from nothing at all or simple IBS to various autoimmune conditions or even "the one" specific disease—seeing a gastroenterologist is really your only move. You need to pinpoint exactly what you're dealing with; this isn't something you should just brush off.
Honestly, forget about the aloe vera until you actually know what the underlying issue is. You should start treatment only once you know exactly what you are treating. So, please, let's avoid unnecessary experimentation: get the diagnostic tests done first, and then move on to treatment.

Forget about the aloe vera stuff until you actually know what's happening. Treat the cause, not just the symptom. Stop the guesswork: get the tests done first, then figure out the treatment.

I know it's serious, but the struggle is that my GI doctor told me to start with stool samples first. It's been five days and I'm still waiting to schedule everything, and I have to see the same doctor again. I heard there's a specialist in Manhattan who's supposedly the best, but things took a turn for the worse yesterday. I've got nonstop diarrhea and couldn't stop it. I ended up in the ER, but they basically told me they can't refer me to a specialist without lab results, so they just gave me some Loperamide, an injection, and sent me home.
Kate Jackson68 and I both think this smells like UC based on the symptoms, though I'm secretly hoping it's just a bacteria or a parasite—that would be the "better" outcome 😢 . I'll post an update once I get confirmation. thanks👋

Look, I’d rather we just chat here instead of over on my own forum. Just hit me up once you get those results back. You’ll probably end up needing a colonoscopy anyway. If you're based in New York City, I’d suggest reaching out to Dr. Vucelić at Mount Sinai.

What's actually bothering you? 😕

A woman asks for help or some kind of info on how she can be useful, so I give her what she needs along with a little extra context... and now she’s still out here digging for more answers. 👋

There are just too many possibilities here—everything from nothing at all to IBS, a laundry list of autoimmune issues, or even something like Crohn's. A gastroenterologist is really your only move if you want answers; you have to pin down exactly what we're dealing with. This isn't something to mess around with, I guess.
Forget the aloe vera nonsense until you actually figure out what's wrong. You shouldn't be treating anything until you know exactly what you're dealing with. Just... skip the guesswork. Get the tests done first, then handle the treatment. Maybe.

If that's the case, then here it is. Maybe diet can help. I guess. There was an article about it. Coffee, too. Maybe.

The SCD diet isn't some magic fix for everyone. Sure, I know a few people who swear by it, but honestly? There are way more folks out there for whom it does absolutely nothing—or worse, it actually makes things harder. If someone is thinking about jumping into it, they really need to be careful. I’m talking specifically about people dealing with Crohn's or ulcerative colitis, since those are the groups usually pushing this diet.

So, I just got out of the hospital about half an hour ago after an 8-day stint. Doctors are leaning towards Ulcerative Colitis—about a 90% chance—or maybe some weird atypical inflammation starting up. My bloodwork didn't show much, just some mild inflammation, so now I’m playing the waiting game for the final diagnosis. I should have the official word in two weeks at my follow-up after they took samples during my colonoscopy.🙂
For now, it's strictly diet changes and meds.
If anyone has any helpful links or resources, please drop them below. I really want to get up to speed on this as much as possible.🙏

If you check the link in my signature under "thanks Hucuk," there's a general section with a link to the old forum dedicated to ulcerative colitis. You'll find plenty of answers and personal stories there, though you do have to register. If you read something and have questions, just post them here on this new forum. There’s also a link on this site to a pretty solid article about UC written in English. Honestly, I'm sorry you had to go through a colonoscopy; I know how much that sucks. If it makes you feel any better, they're working on those tiny camera capsules so we won't have to deal with invasive exams as often—fingers crossed they become standard soon. Let me know how you're doing and what specific type of UC they end up diagnosing (check the forum for info on the different types).

Went for my follow-up today. No official diagnosis just yet—doc says we have to wait and see how things play out since these kinds of gut issues can sometimes mimic other stuff. I’m sticking with the sulfasalazine for now, which actually helped; doing 1g three times a day plus folic acid. And guess what? I finally got the green light to expand my diet! I can have chocolate 👍, dairy... though I still need to watch out for sausages (basically anything that makes me bloat), fried food, soda, and even too much fruit juice. Pizza is still a "maybe" for now. Next check-up in six weeks.
Had bloodwork done yesterday, too. My hemoglobin is looking a little low, but honestly, I'll pull it up 😉. On the bright side, my CRP dropped down to 1. It was sitting at 12.3 or even 16 back when I was in the hospital before I started the meds.👋
