Anthony Hopkins

I read somewhere that he was a total troublemaker back in school—supposedly that’s what drove him toward acting.
I caught his film The Remains of the Day yesterday. Honestly? Both the actor and the movie blew me away with how much weight they carry. It’s a heavy look at a life lived with too many missed opportunities—kind of a cautionary tale for the rest of us.
In my book, he’s one of the most brilliant actors working today. I’m actually kicking myself for not watching more of his work sooner, but I plan on making up for lost time very soon.

I’ve always found him a bit tedious—just one of those dry characters.
But that movie where he stars alongside Emma Thompson as a butler? That was absolutely brilliant.

If you haven't seen them yet, you should definitely check out "When Will You Stop Loving Me" and "Hannibal." In my opinion, they're easily his best movies.

Look, the lambs are going quiet one by one. He’s out there eating brains and ripping skin—it’s all great and all—but honestly? He’s at his absolute best in those romantic melodramas. 😍

He’s got plenty of solid movies under his belt, though I guess a lot of people don't even know his name. He’s definitely a legend, or maybe just a total icon if he isn't one.😁

The guy is an absolute legend, seriously one of my all-time favorites, right up there with Tom Hanks

I watched The World's Fastest Indian from 2005 today, and I’m left with the distinct impression that Hopkins's character here is virtually identical to his role in The Father from last year—the one that earned him that trophy for Best Actor.

In fact, the character is so strikingly similar that you could easily argue The Father serves as a direct sequel to this film.

I’m not sure if anyone else caught this connection, or if it's just me?

Good catch. I watched that one shortly before The Father myself. Both performances were excellent, but they feel remarkably similar.

I was just a kid when I first saw Magic, and those ventriloquist dummies absolutely terrified me. It’s actually a fantastic film, even if it hasn't quite reached the same level of fame yet. Despite classics like Bounty or Elephant, I feel like he didn't truly enter the mainstream spotlight until When Will You Stop Loving Me. Personally, I think his role as William Bligh was one of his most demanding performances, though he claims he poured far too much energy into it, resulting in a mediocre movie in the end.

Caught a screening of Magic at the local independent cinema—honestly, I was pretty mesmerized.

He’s quite the actor! I mean, take *Fracture*, for example—that movie is honestly just a pretty mid-tier thriller on its own, but his performance really elevates the whole thing. I definitely need to sit down and watch that new one, *The Father*.

It’s an absolute masterpiece, much like everything else that comes out of the Ivory merchant studio. Honestly, this is his peak—his strongest performance, hands down. He was just born to play this part.
Don't get me wrong, his other roles in different films aren't half bad either.

Since we're digging up this old thread where people were getting the movie title wrong back then... well, you have to remember, Google didn't exist in those days.😁

People say his role in a Hitchcock film wasn't much to write home about, so I skipped it.
