I thought this movie was fantastic 🙏

The casting was spot on across the board, even with James Garner. She really nailed that "girl next door" vibe—so sweet and unassuming, which fit her role perfectly. There was such a gentle undertone running through the whole film. 😍

Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto were incredible; they both truly lived their characters, and I think the chemistry between them was palpable. Matthew impressed me once again, not just because of his sheer dedication to the part, but because of his actual acting ability and how effectively he embodied the character. 🙏

Denis O'Hare was also great; it’s just a shame he didn't have more screen time.

Honestly, nothing but praise for this entire film. 😁

As for McConaughey, I'll give him credit for Dallas Buyers Club, True Detective, and that little bit in Wolf of Wall Street.
I haven't really seen his older stuff, though.

He was killer in Time to Kill back in '96... even then, I knew he was headed straight for the top. 😁
Plus you had Samuel L. Jackson, the Sutherlands, Kevin Spacey, Ashley Judd, Sandra Bullock...
One of those better thrillers... he plays the lawyer representing Jackson.

It looks like most of you were pretty annoyed by Matthew McConaughey's presence here, and honestly, I felt the same way. But he’s actually different in this one. The movie itself is genuinely good, too. After reading the plot summary on IMDb, I was bracing myself for something tedious, but it truly earned that Oscar nomination.

Man, I honestly didn't even realize it was Jared Leto in this movie until I finished watching it and actually went looking up some details online. 😁

with such a massive lineup of talent, he actually stood out to me. 😁

Otherwise, I don't remember anyone looking that good while being "emaciated"🙏

I skipped both Magic Mike and Killer Joe featuring Matthew McConaughey back in the day, though for totally different reasons. Honestly, after hitting this run of Mud, DBC, and The Lincoln Lawyer, I’m seriously considering finally giving them a shot. Screw it... I'm watching them ASAP. 😍

I'd also highly recommend checking out The Lincoln Lawyer.

Magic Mike 🤣 what can I even say about that one? It’s not some absolute train wreck or anything, but it's totally unnecessary viewing—honestly, don't waste your damn time.

But getting back to DBC, that movie was an absolute blast, seriously, huge props to everyone involved because it was just top-tier stuff.🙏

True for Jared too; I didn't recognize him at first glance either. It's intense, but absolutely incredible.
Both actors completely transformed themselves—it was a total show.
And yes, phenomenal film. Way better than 12 Years a Slave in every way.

Such a great movie. The acting was spot on—Jared Leto is seriously talented..

I ended up doing a quick Google search because I had this nagging feeling that I’d seen the actor somewhere before.🤣

As for James Garner... honestly, she did a decent enough job with the role.
Nothing groundbreaking here, really. It’s not like every single role in a movie needs to be an Oscar contender to be worthwhile. To me, it felt like her character was primarily there to serve a specific narrative purpose: to show that not every doctor is just another cog in the machine of a predatory Big Pharma corporation. You know, there are still empathetic professionals out there who aren't just chasing a paycheck. 😳

Great movie—hats off to Matthew McConaughey for this one. Jared Leto also killed his part. Jennifer was alright, though I feel like most actresses could have pulled off a role like that. That role really suited him.

Personally, I don't think so (even though they include that typical disclaimer at the end of movies based on true events about when someone passed away). My companion insists it is, so... before I dive into my thoughts on the characters, I really need to know.

It’s actually based on a true story, too. You can see it written right there at the end of the credits. I think the director even mentioned in an interview that he originally wanted to film this while the guy was still alive, since he already had the script ready and had actually met him, but I guess... well, things just took forever to get moving.

A-ha, so it turns out... well, either way, the movie is absolutely fantastic, no question about it. As for the character himself—which is a totally separate issue from how good the film is—I can't help but wonder if his efforts to help people by recommending things like aloe or vitamins were purely driven by profit, or if he genuinely wanted to help (or, my guess is, both). Plus, some of the details regarding the disease itself feel inaccurate based on what we know today. I assume the screenwriter just stuck to the medical understanding available at the time the story takes place.
