High school girls blasting pop hits on the bus

I don't really care about the populists or The Rolling Stones, or who's married to whom. If people want to base their taste on that, I guess they should listen to Taylor Swift too. I mean, her dad's probably some bigshot politician or something, right? Whatever. I'm just sharing your perspective, but I personally think looking at things that way isn't quite right. It doesn't change my point, but this is supposed to be a place for expressing opinions, I suppose.

It just reminded me of this absolute gem from my childhood 😁
back in fifth grade, we had to write a biography in English class, and I confidently wrote that I loved "underground music." Some older kid immediately called me out on it, asking, "Oh yeah? What kind of stuff is underground?" And I looked him dead in the eye and said, "Well, the Underworld is underground." 😁

The masses have always been simple-minded, which means there will always be people who act or listen to things just because everyone else is doing it. Today, they’re gravitating toward mindless pop radio (tomorrow, maybe it’ll be something else entirely). I suppose human stupidity is just an inescapable part of our nature.

The real issue, though, is that people lacking depth tend to be both intolerant and aggressive. It’s probably never happened to you, but I doubt anyone listening to Bach would ever choose to terrorize an entire bus with their musical taste. But for some primitive type blasting loud, trashy pop, that kind of behavior feels perfectly normal—and that’s where the actual trouble starts.

So, a friend of mine was sitting in her English class the other day and wrote down that she loves "Indie" music—you know, that whole scene—but the teacher actually crossed it out and corrected her to "Indian."

It feels like I’m getting terrorized more often lately by people blasting unbearable genres—probably heavy metal or something—with half the bus shaking from the bass. I haven't actually heard anyone listening to country music, though I did see one woman packing some CDs into her bag that said "Morgan Wallen Mix" 😬. I don't really buy the argument that people listen to country just because "everyone else does." That's a lazy way to look at anything. You could say that about rap or pop, too. Not everyone listens to country, and not everyone listens to everything else. People listen to stuff because they actually like it. Period. I guess I don't get why people overthink this so much...

Nah, the driver wasn't playing that music; it was just some kid with a Discman. About ten days ago, someone sat right behind me... I guess I was losing my mind. 😁 It’s a shame I didn't have my own Discman on me. 😁

Every ten or twenty years, some group of people starts acting shocked by whatever the "youth of today" chooses to blast through their headphones.

Look, I am nowhere near (and I mean veeeeery far from) being a fan of country music (ugh, please), but doesn't it seem perfectly logical that teenagers are naturally drawn to the exact stuff their parents find revolting?
I can easily picture some 14-year-old kid whose dad used to go hard on the New Wave scene back in the 80s—maybe he was even deployed in the Gulf War—just absolutely losing his mind because his parents are blasting cheesy country hits in the living room, driving the whole house crazy.

It actually reminds me of a friend's daughter—her parents are total traditionalists, always in suits and ties, very buttoned-up. She’s an incredibly bright, sweet girl, but she’s out there rocking this... well, let's just call it a "rebellious, edgy" style, if you catch my drift...
And sure, maybe the older generation is being difficult, but isn't that exactly the point?
