In the song where they mention planting a linden tree—Đorđe Balašević says he drove a thousand miles just like that ugly Frenchman in a beautiful movie... which film is he talking about??

I love him too, but I guess I can't really give you an answer to that one! 😛

but the only ugly Frenchman worth mentioning might be Gerard Depardieu... 😁

as for the movie itself, I honestly haven't the slightest clue

Forgive my lack of polish here—I’m going to throw this out there somewhat crudely because I’m honestly not sure of the proper way to phrase it... let's see if I can get this right... Jean-Paul Belmondo in "A Man and a Woman"
That is precisely how I interpret it...

So, I was thinking about the movie *A Man and a Woman* by Claude Lelouch. You’ve got this rugged Frenchman, Jean-Louis Trintignant, playing a race car driver who falls hard for Anouk Aimée and ends up driving out to see her. On paper, it sounds like your typical, cliché love story, but for some reason, it doesn't devolve into some sugary, mindless trash. Instead, it turns into this gorgeous, heavy-hitting piece of cinema. It’s got all the ingredients you’d find in a cheap daytime soap opera, but the acting is top-tier, the cinematography is stunning—they jump between black and white and color, supposedly because Lelouch ran out of color film during production, which honestly just gave the whole thing a more unique vibe—and the soundtrack? Easily one of the best ever made... Honestly, calling this movie anything less than beautiful would be a mistake.

fadedridge2, thank you.. I'd rather not die in total ignorance..
I must admit, I’ve found myself questioning the whole thing quite often, and it turns out I had completely misread the situation myself... thank you.

Man, Google is a lifesaver!

Jean-Paul Belmondo

I’m totally into Jean-Paul Belmondo and Đorđe Balašević. I love how I stumble upon a new song every once in a while. The last one I heard was "Hey hey, we don't care, we're just cruising along." 😁 Such a killer little track.

Jean-Louis Trintignant is unattractive?!
I simply cannot get behind that theory.

I am totally not buying that theory.

If someone is actually ugly, then there’s nobody left to be besides Đorđe Balašević.

Jean-Paul Belmondo

As for me, I find Balašević to be absolutely wonderful. There is a certain joy in stumbling upon a new song of his every once in a while; just recently, I came across "Hey hey, we don't care, we're cruising on a Vespa." 😁 It is a truly magnificent little tune.

This whole thing is nearly as old as Balašević himself.

So, my apologies to whoever actually made it. Still doesn't work for me.😁

I bet he actually meant Belmondo.

No, no, the song was actually written by Balašević, but that was ages ago... which is precisely why I say it’s practically as old as he is.

Ah, I get it now. I honestly thought the song was written the moment he was born. 😁 Grandma probably sang it to him because she was just so thrilled her son finally had a kid. And man, Grandma was wild—she spent the whole night dancing to Motown, so it’s no wonder little Joe turned out the way he did.
But yeah, that's not how it happened.

I’m gonna have to disagree with that take.

With what? A theory on ugliness or just a theory about that specific movie? Look, Hoffman is easily one of my all-time favorites. I actually brought him up in an article I put together a while back—his uncle was this legendary Formula 1 driver who passed away last month, so I was working on a little tribute piece for him. But yeah, calling him a classic Hollywood heartthrob? Probably not... though I do think Bruce Springsteen might have been laying it on a bit thick there.
