Greetings, everyone. I find myself at a bit of a crossroads regarding my current PC build, as it's high time I looked into replacing my processor. Right now, I'm running an Intel Core 2 Duo, but I've hit a frustrating little snag: I can't seem to find any reliable sources online where anyone is actually selling processors for the 775 socket.🙂 Does anyone happen to have any leads or know of a decent spot where I might track down an Intel Core 2 Extreme or perhaps an Intel Core 2 Quad?

It’s been about two years since you could find any LGA 775 processors brand new in stores... the platform is pretty much dead at this point, so you’re likely looking at used gear.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/processors/listing/10150773 -> I guess this would be a pretty solid deal.

You might stumble upon them on eBay, or maybe in some local shops as leftover stock, at butcher shops, or even on tech forums...

Here’s one guy selling a few different ones... You can find them on sites like eBay, though the prices tend to be a bit inflated.

That price seems a bit steep for a Q9400. You can grab a new AMD FX-6300 for nearly the same amount, and honestly, it might just outperform that quad core.

The Q8400 really only has 2MB less L2 cache; everything else about them is pretty much identical...

I wasn't suggesting that specific link was the definitive word on the matter; I was merely using it to show how much of this stuff is floating around on eBay. Whether it’s actually worth anything or not $250 is anyone's guess—it's a bit of a gamble, really. It seems aimed at people who have a little extra cash to burn, but not quite enough to justify a complete overhaul of their entire system...
