Look, there’s definitely something going on here. But honestly? You’ll only truly "get" him once you actually sit down and listen. And if you never plan on listening... well, then it’ll be crystal clear why!

It was alright, I guess—even though the crowd was totally hyped up! They were laughing at basically every other word, which honestly just seemed to kill the vibe for the performer, who already looked pretty checked out to begin with...
Actually, because the energy in the room was so high, my friend and I ended up having a great time since we just leaned into it. 😬 The guy kept stepping off the stage—like, five different times!—only to come right back on. At one point, he even admitted he couldn't remember the rest of his set, which is hilarious, considering he seemed perfectly fine with everything he had already played. 😬 It was a little bummer when he performed Shanghai without a single "Everybody knows a SHAN, everybody knows a GAJ" thrown in 😬 but hey, it happens. He did throw in a few homages (to Lou Reed and a couple of others), though. His guitar setup wasn't quite hitting the mark either; he spent a good chunk of time tuning away as if we were all sitting there waiting on it. 😬

I didn't make it. Honestly, those hyperactive, fake-smiling types—the ones who just can't sit still—are exactly why I stayed home. The last time I actually caught him performing at the local dive bar, he was playing alongside Pavlica on the trumpet (I think Mance introduced them, though I can't recall his actual name) and some other guy on the drums. Once they started blasting the hits, all those high-energy crowds rushed straight to the bar, bless their hearts. That’s when the part I actually enjoy started—you know, the slower, more melodic stuff where you can just drift a bit. That’s the memory I tend to hold onto.

Not 2, screw both of them. 🙂 It's those high-strung types.

It was killer, honestly. At the very end, he just looked at us and said: GO ON, THE BAR IS WAITING FOR YOU.

As far as the setlist goes, my favorites were "I Love Juices," that one where the paramedics show up with their "ti-lu-li-lu" vibe, and the new version of Evelina. Ships might sink, but Evelina stays afloat. 🤣

"2" is totally played out—it's basically the anthem for the Fair-goers on the local forums. And that "Slimy" track? It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Hmm. I actually know a few folks who ended up at Coachella, and they're absolute legends who still love that track! They're true connoisseurs—well, maybe just heavy drinkers—😁, but definitely not those low-lifes.
I think you might be the one with the issue here. 😛 It just feels so silly to me when someone claims a song is "ruined" just because it became popular.

Of course. He released two albums, one of which is a double LP.

I have such an affinity for Mance. It had been ages since I last listened to him, until a friend mentioned they’d stumbled upon some fascinating footage on YouTube—a recording of Mance performing at the Swamp! 🙂
So, I gave his work another listen. Truly wonderful... 😍
