Is anyone else on here dealing with this specific issue?
I’ve lived with this condition for as long as I can remember—and honestly, I’ve never even stepped foot in an ENT's office. I just felt discouraged by everything I heard about how there's "no cure," and frankly, I hadn't really needed to seek help before since the ringing was manageable.
But things have taken a turn for the worse over the last couple of months. I'm seriously considering seeing a specialist, but before I do, I would truly value any insight or information anyone can share regarding this condition.

It isn’t exactly an illness.

Would you honestly claim a dog suffers from some kind of olfactory disorder just because its sense of smell is significantly more acute than ours?

As for me, I’ve lived with this constant ringing in my ears for as long as I can remember. When the world finally goes quiet, it becomes incredibly distinct. I’ve simply learned how to tune it out, so it doesn't really bother me anymore.

Is it just a faint buzzing, or more like a constant hum?

I’d say it sounds more like a steady—high-frequency—buzzing.

I’ve been living with this condition for as long as I can remember. Honestly, I never even bothered seeing an ENT. I just got discouraged by all the doom and gloom online saying there’s no cure, and besides, the ringing was never loud enough to actually ruin my life.
But things have changed. For the last couple of months, it’s gotten significantly worse. I’m finally considering booking an appointment with a specialist, but before I do, I would truly value any insight or firsthand experience anyone can share about this condition.

Tinnitus... I've been stuck with it for ten years now. It’s like I fried some circuit in my brain back when I let myself get blasted by those obnoxious electronic music sets at a club—music I’ve always hated, anyway. 🙄

I went for a hearing test and everything came back perfectly normal. I haven't gone back since, but there's this constant, piercing sound in my head—like that high-pitched whine you used to hear from an old tube TV.

Exactly... look, stop digging through medical forums online. Either go see a specialist or don't, but if you choose to stay home, learn the art of ignoring the noise. Nothing you read in some dark corner of the internet is going to make you feel better. Trust me, I know exactly what you mean, 😢

Huh. Sounds like hearing damage to me. Just go see an ENT specialist and see what they have to say about it.

It doesn't have to be that... I know that sound well, and it isn't hearing damage. (I'm telling you—it sounds more like a whistling tea kettle or that static buzz from an old TV when there's no signal)

But look, seeing an ENT is definitely the right first step. 🙂

Robin Cooper, my neurologist actually put me on something called Urutal. Here’s the gist from the pamphlet: "Betahistine is a neuroactive medication used to treat vertigo symptoms associated with Meniere's disease, including dizziness accompanied by nausea and vomiting, hearing loss, and tinnitus or ringing in the ears."
It’s a solid medication, but you should definitely run it by your doctor first—ideally both your primary care physician and a neurologist, since you'll need a prescription for it.
Best, 👋

A neurologist? So, similar to what my doctor suggested? Did she mention the specific cause or if there's an actual cure?

Look, I’m not an expert, and in my case, we’re dealing with mild epilepsy. But even before that, I used to deal with dizzy spells and ringing in my ears all the time. So, honestly, I don't think it's actually connected to the epilepsy. If I were you, I'd go see a neurologist right away. They really are the pros when it comes to this kind of stuff since they specialize in these exact scenarios. It really just depends on the individual.
Is there a cure? Well, my doctor just told me to take some vitamins for three months and that would be that. My best advice? Get to a neurologist first, and then you'll have a much better idea of what the next steps look like. Cya! 😉

northernfalcon9 said:Look, I can't say for sure since my situation involves mild epilepsy, but even before all this, I was dealing with dizzy spells and ringing in my ears. Honestly? It feels totally unrelated to the seizures. My best advice is to go see a neurologist immediately. They’re the specialists; they actually deal with this stuff for a living. Everyone is different, though.
As for a cure: my doctor just told me to take some supplements for three months and call it a day. Seriously, see a neurologist first, then you'll figure out your next move. Later. 😉

Alright, thanks... I really hope things turn around for you soon. 🙂

Well, best of luck to you all. 👋

As for me and my constant buzzing, I can't help but wonder why I would bother seeking treatment for something that isn't causing me any grief or harm in the first place. 😁

That’s great if it doesn't bother you, but mine was manageable until recently.
The whole reason I started this thread was because the ringing actually intensified—which means I need to get to an ENT specialist as soon as possible...

but I’m starting this whole thread precisely because the ringing has ramped up. It means I need to get to a specialist ASAP...

For me, it hasn't gotten any worse yet (and honestly, I'm praying to every god in the sky that stays that way)... plus, I've picked up a few tricks to distract myself from the noise..

- I always sleep with the TV on. If that's too much for you, try some low-volume radio or white noise..

- I never, ever sleep pressing my ear directly into the pillow. That makes the ringing sound absolutely deafening—like a siren in your skull. Instead, I rest my ear against the edge of the pillow so nothing blocks the outer ear and the sound stays muffled..

- Mental discipline. Since I struggle with panic attacks (and believe me, that's a one-way ticket to seeing a psychiatrist), I've learned how to forcefully shift my focus whenever the noise starts driving me crazy..

ringing in the ears

It’s a ruptured eardrum—basically, those tiny blood vessels in the drum just snapped because of
stress (and yeah, if you crank the volume up too high)

There isn't a fix for it; you can only watch it get worse

the end

extreme stress (usually just way too many decibels).

The end.

Well, isn't that just lovely.😢

If that's the case, why didn't my specialist at the Mayo Clinic find any hearing damage at all?🤔

and maybe that ENT specialist should probably check in with an ophthalmologist first, don't you think?

sorry
just messing with you a little bit

but, honestly, what I wrote is just based on my own experience after visiting
the ENT, and sitting in one of those soundproof booths where they blast all those various frequencies through your headphones and whatnot
so eventually, I just ended up saying exactly what I said in my previous post
and that’s really all there is to it

My bad.
Just a little jab.

But seriously, what I wrote isn't just noise—it's my actual experience. I went to the ENT, sat through those sound-chamber tests where they blast stuff through your headphones, the whole nine yards.
And at the end of it all, I walked away feeling exactly how I described in my last post.
That’s just the reality of it.

I went through that exact same gauntlet. They told me my hearing was perfectly fine while sticking all sorts of equipment into my ears... I spent hours stuck in that clinic. 😕

By the way, did you also mess up at the party like I did? 😢 (And yeah... my apologies. I didn't realize you were speaking from personal experience.)
