So, what is the actual subject here: some global shift in technology, or just the typical social and criminal dysfunction we deal with in America?

It seems we are perhaps the only nation left without a decent high-speed flat-rate option...

Everyone is too busy looking at their own backyard. Besides, once things actually change—if they ever do—transfer speeds for everything, whether it's web traffic, burning media, or moving files between drives, will get so fast that smaller formats won't even matter anymore.

Look, VHS is dead and buried, I get it. But honestly, I’m not some tech fanatic who needs to own every single gadget the second it hits the shelves.
Once external hard drives drop down to something reasonable—like maybe $110—then I might actually consider picking one up. Right now, I’d rather just grab a video for $167 and a decent 4-hour VHS tape for a few bucks and just burn it all.
By the way, are Rewritable DVDs even still a thing? Or am I stuck making constant trips to Target just to grab more blank discs every time I want to record something?
offtopic:
Hard drives are definitely the future, though. My apartment is already a total mess of old hard drives, MP4 files, Netflix downloads, and DVDs—I can't keep track of anything. I’m constantly losing discs and stuff... yeah, I guess that's just the struggle for most people.

Rewritable discs do exist, though the real headache is the sheer number of different formats out there—mostly just a byproduct of all those massive tech giants fighting for market dominance...

Anyway, these days you’re mostly seeing people pick up DVD-RW media; the standard ones will probably be obsolete before we know it...

nimblemarlin17 said:Obviously, it’s a way better option. You won't even need DVDs anymore—aside from the originals, of course. Everything you burn will just sit on a 200 GB hard drive. I mean, why bother with discs when you've got a drive like that?

Wow—this is actually great news!👍 🙂

RIP to good old Blockbuster!😢
