How do I convert music from a Compact Disc into MP3 format?
I've been using Audigrabber...
Everything works fine when I'm ripping from a Compact Disc, but for some reason, I can't pull files from a folder sitting on my hard drive...
Is that just impossible or what?
If anyone knows of a reliable alternative that actually works—something you've personally used—please let me know!

Everything works fine when I'm ripping straight from a Compact Disc, but I can't get it to work when I try to convert files sitting in a folder on my hard drive... !

I honestly don't even get what you're asking.😕

You can rip from a Compact Disc to your hard drive, sure, but you can't "rip" from one part of your hard drive to another.😕

Look, just tell us exactly what you're trying to move and what the source and target formats are.🙂

I can rip files from a Compact Disc into MP3 without any issues, but I'm hitting a wall when trying to do it directly from my hard drive!
Here’s the deal:
I want to convert songs from WMA, OGG, and about five or six other formats straight into MP3!
The catch is, I need to be able to go from one folder on my hard drive to another!

Here’s the deal:
I want to take songs in WMA, OGG, and about 5 or 6 other formats and convert them all to MP3!
But I need to go from one folder on my hard drive to another!

So anyway...

Look... converting OGG to MP3 is basically pointless because they're almost the exact same damn thing... but yeah, definitely convert that WMA stuff.👍

I don't personally use Audacity, so I can't tell you exactly why your setup is acting up (maybe you're missing a codec or just messing something up), but if you want my advice, iTunes is hands down the #1 tool for this kind of conversion. It works every single time.👍

In principle, you really shouldn't be converting from one format to another—at least when we're talking about lossy files.

The smartest move is to just rip directly to MP3 (using LAME at HQ=0 Stereo). Keep what you have in OGG, and if you want other formats, just find the MP3 versions elsewhere.

Converting from WMA to MP3 is going to result in garbage quality. Honestly, there's a good chance the original WMA rips were already pretty bad to begin with.

Besides, Audigorabber isn't designed for that. It's meant for ripping, though it can convert WAV files to MP3 using LAME. For anything else, you should just use the software I mentioned earlier.

I stick with Freerip 2.52 👍
It pulls files from my hard drive or directly from a Compact Disc...
(ogg, mp3, wav)
IT'S FREE!!!

When I need to rip my Compact Discs, I usually stick with Handbrake. 🙏

I also use that same software to encode everything using LAME 3.92.

If I ever actually find myself needing to convert one format to another—say, switching WMA over to MP3—I’ll pull out Adobe Audition, though I honestly rarely bother since Windows Media Player handles MP3, WMA, OGG, and WAV without breaking a sweat...

Long live Windows Media Player 2+. 🙏

I just grab an exact audio copy, then I clean everything up using Audacity (or whatever the latest version of Cool Edit Pro is)😁
