Shaun of the Dead

A bit more on the "okay" side than "great" for this horror comedy🙂

Am I the only one who struggles with this kind of "absurdly normal" humor? This supposed "parody" isn't even remotely funny to me. Honestly, it’s just mindless... and not in a fun, silly way, but in a genuinely stupid way.
And no, the movie isn't any good.

I actually enjoyed the movie. It was pretty funny, the acting was top-notch, and there was more than enough gore to satisfy. Think "Friends," but with zombies. 😁

That said, one specific part had me cracking up (no idea why):
that bit at the end where they run the global news montage, showing some kid who looks just like Richard Ramirez holding a shotgun, paired with those tacky 3D graphics and that deep, dramatic narrator voice while scrolling through the rest of the world news... total Zombaid.

To really get what’s going on here, you probably need to be a fan of the zombie genre. Wright and Pegg packed this thing with endless references, and I guess the movie is twice as funny if you actually catch all of them... if anyone is interested, I could try to break them down for you.

The movie is absolutely fantastic! I actually think Josh is even better because it was made by the British crew.

Honestly, just listening to their accents is enough to have me cracking up! 😁

I honestly didn't catch him on the first watch—I guess he wasn't really on anyone's radar back then, right?
The movie actually holds up incredibly well even after eleven years—it's still great!

Btw, I'm not really into vampires or zombies, but it seems like things work best when everything is a joke rather than some "pretending to be serious" drama. Just like that American flick 😲

Man, when I tell you this... it’s just incredible!

I still think it holds up just as well as it did when I first saw it; Shaun and Ed really are the perfect duo, and I actually found myself digging the side characters quite a bit—the stepfather, the brother, and the guy caught up in the romance... It’s just such a shame that what would have been absolute perfection was undercut by that one tired cliché you see in every single movie like this, where there’s always one or two idiots who completely blow the whole thing and land everyone in deep trouble.

Over time, I’ve actually grown to prefer Hot Fuzz, even though I still have a soft spot for Shaun.

I totally agree. With Hot Fuzz, they really hit their stride. To me, it’s easily their best collaboration.

I actually just rewatched The World's End the other day—it’s surprisingly good! Honestly, it doesn't feel much weaker than Shaun of the Dead or Fuzzo.

For me, Shaun of the Dead remains the absolute best. It’s just a great film. The others are solid enough, and even Baby Driver—which isn't part of that trilogy—is excellent, but Shaun still holds the top spot in my book.

To be real, I haven't even given that one a second look, let alone a third, unlike the rest of the trilogy. It just didn't blow me away.

Maybe I'll give it another shot. Might be the fair thing to do.

I thought it was seriously good.

Spaced is awesome, but man, I watched that like 10 years ago.

The World's End felt a bit weaker than the other two on my first watch too, but looking back, I’ve started to appreciate it way more—that moment near the end where Pegg breaks down? Such incredible acting, just pure emotion.

I was expecting something with a bit more wit.
That lazy roommate character was just tedious—honestly, I’ve never been a fan of that cheap shaming humor they lean on.
