Looking for new PC speakers

Title says it all: I’m looking for some new PC speakers. My old Bose 5.1 setup is officially on its last legs, and honestly, I’m ready to toss it in the trash. Don't get me wrong, I liked the system, but I just don't need it anymore. I'm not exactly cranking the volume high enough to justify a dedicated subwoofer. All I really want are two solid speakers that deliver the best possible audio quality without breaking the bank, ideally staying under $133.
The one thing I’m insisting on? A headphone jack on the unit.
Most of my audio time is spent gaming, listening to music on Spotify, or streaming sports and movies—though, let's be real, I end up watching most movies and games on the TV anyway, so the sound usually comes from there.
Brand doesn't matter to me.

Look, if you aren't some total audio nerd, you probably don't even need a subwoofer for music. In fact, most high-end setups stick to a classic 2.0 stereo configuration—which obviously can't touch the impact of satellites in a 2.1 setup.

It’s especially true with these budget systems. The subwoofer usually isn't integrated well at all, so they just crank up the bass to make it feel more powerful. That's really designed for gaming or movies, though hooking a TV up to external speakers isn't a bad idea either.

When it comes to mainstream computer speakers, I’ve always found Creative to be pretty decent. Logitech, despite all the hype, always ends up disappointing me. It’s mostly flashy aesthetics with very little actual substance. As I mentioned, they tend to overcompensate with the bass, which might work for "cinematic drama" in movies, but their top-tier 5.1 and 2.0 models were garbage to me, while the top Creative models felt actually solid. I haven't kept up with the lower-end stuff or how things have changed lately. There's probably way more competition now, whether you're shopping at Best Buy or looking at higher-end gear. I think even some old-school pro audio brands have jumped into this market, though likely in much higher price brackets...

Edit: Those Genius SP hf 1800 units look pretty sleek, though. 😳

I’m looking for some speaker recommendations. Budget is roughly around $67, though I could stretch it a bit if it’s actually worth the extra cash—otherwise, no point in overpaying just for the sake of it. It's mostly just casual listening, movies, and gaming, nothing too intense or high-end 🤷

You could always just grab this one too—honestly, you aren't going to notice much of a difference with the pricier speakers unless you're counting an extra 1W of power as a massive upgrade. 🙂

I appreciate how tiny they are—they don't hog any desk space—but my one gripe is that the cable is incredibly short.

I’ve got them hooked up, but they’re making all sorts of weird noises—just constant static and chirping even when there isn't any audio playing at all.

Is there some kind of fix for this, or am I just looking at a trip back to Best Buy to return them?

It shouldn't be clearing anything out—honestly, it sounds like your port is just acting up. Try swapping it over to some other USB ports and see if that fixes it.

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say I finally pulled the trigger on those Genius SP hf 1800 speakers. They’re a bit bulky—honestly, kind of a mouthful on my desk—but I can live with the footprint once I get used to them. The sound quality? Absolutely stellar.

Just a heads-up for anyone else thinking about picking up these speakers: the power switch is located on the back of the unit. It’s a bit of a nuisance, honestly.

There’s really no point in shutting it down, because it's positioned right at the back and it's going to keep running much longer anyway...

Yeah, but those indicator lights are way too bright, and they're pointed right at the bed.

I’ve got those speakers and they’re solid. Quick question though—isn't the one with the indicator light supposed to be the right speaker? You've got it set up on the left...

The outlet is on my left, and man, this cable is way too short! 😁 Other than that, the speakers are killer.

Actually, the PC tower is on the left, and if I try to put the speakers on the right, the cable connecting them to the tower is just pathetic—it’s way too short.

The outlet is on the right, but my power strip stretches all the way to the left side of the desk where I've got the TV, PC, monitor, and speakers all plugged in. I’d love to just move the tower over to the right side of the desk—really would—but there's a catch. The HDMI cable connecting the TV to the computer isn't long enough, so the PC has to stay on the left. And then, to make matters worse, the speaker cable won't reach the tower if I try moving the speakers to the right side either. So, everything is stuck on the left! 😁
