The Hulk movie leans a little too hard into the drama—though, to be fair, they really went all out with the special effects.
I honestly don't get why some people expect a deep cinematic masterpiece when we're talking about an adaptation of Marvel comics.
If the comic itself is just pure, unadulterated fun, then the movie should probably stay in that lane, too.
It feels like Ang Lee was more interested in conveying Bruce's inner turmoil rather than just giving us two hours of entertainment driven by Hulk's rage.

By the way...
I caught a pretty great little detail.
At the start of the film, Bruce walks into this lab building, and you see an older guy in a suit and a security guard walk out. That guard is only on screen for a second or two... but it was definitely enough for me to realize it's Lou Ferrigno.

Let's say X-Men is a 10, Blade is a 5, and Spawn is right up there with him.

I haven't seen Spawn, but... I actually really dig Blade (never read the comics, but who cares?). Those fight scenes in Blade 2 are easily some of the best I've ever seen.

If the comic is just pure action, then the movie should be too.

People argue about the Hulk comic strip, and honestly, they're right to argue about comics in general..

Yeah, he tried to lean into the human drama, which is tough to balance with all that Hulk rage. That's why it's hit or miss... reading a comic or a book is always a more complete experience.

Since I missed the theatrical run, I just went ahead and rented it on pay-per-view, and honestly, what a total waste of money.
I only picked it up because I was bored, but halfway through, I realized I was actually becoming even more bored than before, which is saying something at 3 PM.
I couldn't even sit there and finish it, so I ended up getting up and moving to my computer just to keep an eye on it out of the corner of my eye... Seriously!!! Avoid this one at all costs if you can. If you haven't seen it yet, please do yourself a favor and just skip it. 👎

Hulk is just proof of how hard it is to please a mass audience... especially when you're making a blockbuster. They either want too much mindless action or way too much drama. Now everyone’s acting like it’s Ang Lee's fault for actually trying to make a "serious" movie.
..Regardless, the direction is undeniably solid. Honestly, it’s one of the best comic book adaptations I’ve seen, especially with those split-screen sequences that feel straight out of a comic panel. Truly brilliant execution.
..It's pretty obvious these early entries were meant to be a setup for the series, leaving the heavy hitting for later on.

Just wanted to point out that the lead actor, Eric Ban, is actually American.

Born right here in the States, with an American father and a German woman for a mother, he’s one of those comedians who really made the jump to serious acting after starring in the movie Chopper. He also had a role in Black Hawk Down and is currently filming Troy.

He wasn't exactly knocking it out of the park in Hulk, but then again, he didn't have much to work with besides looking miserable—he's way better in his other roles.

At least we finally have someone talented besides that guy Visnjic.

P.S. His actual last name is Banadinovic.

Just rewatched Hulk. Honestly, it’s my favorite comic book movie since Batman Begins. People call it a flop just because comic fans were disappointed, but I don't get it. What did everyone expect from Ang Lee? The guy is a genius. He actually cared about the story and character depth instead of just dumping CGI on us, which is what actually matters. Thoughts?

The most expensive art film ever made!

Of all the big summer blockbusters, this one seems to have been forgotten faster than any other. While I wouldn't go so far as to call it a masterpiece, it remains a solid, well-made film. With the sequel hitting theaters next year, my interest is piqued by only one specific factor: the director.

I finally sat down and watched the movie today. To be honest, it wasn't half bad. My only real grievance is that the ending felt incredibly stupid.

Personally, I’d say this is one of the most powerful superhero flicks ever made. And if someone finds it boring? Well, damn, there's a place for everyone in this world...

I’m really not a fan. 😁 Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore superheroes, but I’ve always felt pretty lukewarm about Hulk. To be fair, the 2008 Hulk movie was decent enough, and he holds his own quite well in the Avengers films too. Both Norton and Ruffalo did a fantastic job bringing those characters to life.

+ plus, I’m just not a big fan of Eric Ban ☕

I can't wait for the next part, but sadly it won't be out for a while

I didn't care much for the one from Norton, but I really liked the version with Eric Bana.
