Chiche, YYY and GuitarWolf aren't even that similar. And honestly, it just comes down to taste—if you dig them more, that's your call. To me, all those Japanese garage bands (GuitarWolf, Teengenerat, etc.) are just... garage bands. Period. And frankly, I don't really care if YYY gets forgotten anytime soon; their album is solid enough as it is..
And Thin White Rop is totally forgotten by everyone, saint or sinner, but they’re still incredible. (By the way, if some kind soul out there has anything of theirs in digital format—and I don't mean Moonhead or in The Spanish Cavo / red Sun—please, for the love of god, hit me up. I'm down to trade something for it. You wouldn't believe how impossible it is to find their stuff on SLSK).

Anyway, Monica from FV sent me a lineup, and it says Nina Pound Hammer (the original lineup, too!) is playing at our favorite club on September 5th. Is that actually true??

Haha, she sent me the same thing. I told her it was fine, but noted she really should have reached out to me first regarding that show...

yyy isn't a bad band—it just irritates me when people start making a massive scene over nothing. I have to admit, the way the music media here in America behaves—especially those self-proclaimed "indie" outlets—is starting to remind me of how Suede was hailed as the greatest band on the planet in the UK press just because they put out a single single. It's pathological.

Even though The Strokes are an American band, they feel like this British invention... I can't recall a single issue of Rolling Stone from the last year that didn't feature them—not to mention Mars, but that’s a whole other conversation...
What actually caught me off guard was that after all the hype surrounding them, they released... well, a decent enough album. 🙄

But really... are we ready for Rapture? 😁

Honestly, after how brilliant *Art Star* and *Tick* were, this new album felt like a total letdown. They completely butchered it with those long, drawn-out tracks following traditional structures... It just kills her vibe. That raw spontaneity and that whole "innocent but dangerous" sensuality she has? Totally gone. Plus, the music just feels flat and lacks any real energy.
I mean, don't get me wrong, Karen is definitely one of the most eccentric and wild personalities out there. She mentioned in an interview that her big inspirations are Bowie, Björk, and—get this—Michael Jackson.
And everyone knows she’s been seeing that guy from Liars, who, let's be real, are a way better band anyway. 😎

Maybe they should have just gone by the name Yawn Yawn Yawns
And honestly, I find The Rapture kind of exhausting too, if we're already talking about them😁

All this massive hype surrounding the whole "new rock revolution" thing—or whatever they’re calling it this week—is honestly such a joke. It feels like every six months these critics have to go out and invent some brand-new musical movement just to distract us from the reality that most of today's music scene is nothing more than stale, flavorless recycling.
What really kills me, though, is seeing legitimate, powerhouse bands like The White Stripes get dragged into this whole mess; they didn't ask to be turned into some fleeting, disposable trend, which basically just means they'll be tossed aside by the next big thing soon enough.
And don't even get me started on how everyone uses Gang of Four as their go-to influence or reference point for every single new band popping up lately. It’s pure blasphemy, honestly.

It felt like being teleported out of nowhere; I was hit right in the head and left standing there alone, completely mesmerized and speechless. 😬 😬
The band sounds as fresh as newly fallen snow or a freshly sliced lime.

I’m actually kind of digging that one album I’ve got.

Honestly, their namesake EP was such a standout—I remember being absolutely floored when I first heard it. 😍
Then they went and recorded "Fever to Tell," which is mostly solid work, but I can't shake this nagging feeling that it sounds a bit too overproduced, you know? Like it lost some of that grit.
So, you're saying a new album is on the way? Man, I am ready! I just really hope they stick to that raw, unpolished sound instead of leaning back into those heavy studio layers. 😎

The EP is awesome, Fever to Tell is killer, and the new stuff is solid. Such a cool band. WCIF reminds me of them visually, though I'm not sure what they're actually about (based on that one show we saw).

They’re a decent enough band, I guess. But so what? Should I actually be losing my mind over them? 😕
I’ll admit, they’re one of those acts that can win me over instantly, but that doesn't mean they've earned any lasting loyalty. 🙂

@Adam Moore: That visual comparison to WCIF only works if you're looking at the gender ratio. Unlike those hideous YYYs, WCIF (including Dodo Dolgcajt😬) actually have some style! 😎 😎 😎

That’s just facts. I don't really know you, so I'm not trying to judge, but those two guys in your band? Total heartthrobs... any mom in America would love to have them as sons-in-law. 😎 😁
