Sean Cook2 said:So, regarding the disparagement of men or women in general—is there really no limit to it under the guise of free speech? I’m just looking for a straight answer to my question, one way or the other—is it actually permissible or not—rather than being told that kind of language won't be tolerated, when, in reality, it is.

Look... you can't discriminate against someone specifically, but everyone should have the right to their own opinion. For instance, I might think person XY is a certain way, but regardless of having that opinion, I can't discriminate against XY in relation to YZ. Nor can I call for that discrimination, or take actual steps to make it happen. Something like that, I guess.

The law exists to protect women from things like being denied a job just because they're female, not to force everyone to hold polite opinions or kiss their asses.

If he were calling for violence against women or telling employers to fire them, then we'd have a case. But he wasn't saying that, so the law has no business stepping in here. A person has a right to their opinion and to express it, no matter how much it gets under your skin. I'm sure there are plenty of people whose opinions get under yours, yet here you are, still posting on Reddit.

Well, he wasn't actually banned for that, but the post itself technically qualifies for a warning based on the subforum rules. Any kind of negative generalization in Politics has always been against the rules and has always been penalized. The moderators can stomach it, but most people can't, so they need to be protected from it. Otherwise, things just spiral—threads turn into endless nonsense and insults until they become unreadable. On the other hand, this user wasn't banned for this specific thing, but rather for his track record, which included trying to "clarify" misconceptions about National Socialism, denying the Holocaust, praising apartheid, and straight-up insulting anyone who tried to engage him in conversation.

Sure, it would be great if there was a dedicated space for topics where people want to argue that women are stupider, gay people are "sick," or Black people aren't white enough—whatever crazy thought pops into their heads.

And there is. Those are the science subforums. If he wants to prove those points to the world, he should go do it there and then come back to Politics to use those arguments.

Sean Cook2 was just asking for a warning, and technically she's right, so she isn't some grand inquisitor like you guys are making her out to be now, even if her reasoning was a bit over the top. The real issue is that the guy is already on a timeout, and I agree with Daniel Ward87 that this is an exaggeration since the site made its stance clear by banning him. And honestly, we shouldn't fall into this trend of using laws to harass forum users. Look, here's another one who thinks the site is violating the Constitution.

It's like reading some trashy tabloid.

slybison8 said:So, to reiterate my point: Reddit itself doesn't promote any specific set of values. It seems to me that the platform remains value-neutral, leaving it up to individual members to express their own beliefs—for which they are, of course, personally responsible.

The role of the moderators and admins, as I see it, is simply to maintain the integrity of the discussions, ensuring they remain engaging, well-presented, and an environment where as many people as possible can feel comfortable and free to speak.

I guess that also addresses your dilemma regarding "hate speech" and other moderated content, though naturally, there are certain legal requirements that the law requires us to follow, such as restrictions on displaying Nazi imagery and similar things.

In principle, I believe Reddit shouldn't allow itself to be used as a tool for free promotion by organized interest groups, and perhaps that is where one might draw a line between what is acceptable and what isn't.

However, it shouldn't be based on any particular "value," because Reddit is essentially just a space where all "values" are treated equally in terms of their right to be expressed publicly—provided they stay within the Terms of Service and the specific guidelines outlined there.

Personally, I don't feel comfortable with this kind of rhetoric—and frankly, no woman should have to feel at ease reading it. Being "free" to strike back in kind doesn't mean much to me. There are plenty of threads where you'll see similar insults, and they almost always end in threads being locked, bans, and endless appeals. Can we not draw a line somewhere? Is the right of certain people to claim women are inferior actually something worth defending so fiercely?

If the guy hadn't been a clone of someone who was permabanned, would I have received that strike based on this debate?

If we already have a dedicated space for men, why shouldn't chauvinism be tolerated in other subreddits too? I'm struggling to wrap my head around the logic of allowing chauvinistic views in only specific corners of the site. The whole concept of female inferiority is essentially the foundation of that male-centric section, yet it’s permitted to exist there.

Maybe it’s time to just lay out the plain truth. Nowadays, some people start from the premise that African Americans are practically equal to Caucasians in everything, and because of that, they should hold an equal role in society. That’s basically the core premise of liberalism. This ideology refuses to acknowledge any difference between African Americans and Caucasians other than skin color, and it completely ignores the elementary, glaringly obvious fact that Caucasians—not just biologically, but intellectually through evolution—developed differently from African Americans to meet the demands of survival.

Let’s be real here. African Americans aren't as capable as Caucasians. I'm talking about averages, obviously. Not just physically, but intellectually too. For a whole century, IQ tests have shown that Caucasians score about 3-5% higher on average. But fine, let's toss the tests aside since those results can't be viewed as totally reliable. Let's look at reality.

And the reality is that Caucasians have created practically everything the human race has ever produced. Civilizations, cultures, technology, science, architecture, philosophy, art, entertainment—it's all the work of Caucasians. What's the contribution of African Americans? Pretty much nothing. Over 50 percent of humanity (African Americans) hasn't created even a fraction of a percent of the major achievements across all those fields of human endeavor.

I don't mean to disparage or undervalue African Americans here; I'm just laying out some widely known facts that this so-called liberalism and certain other modern egalitarian ideologies try to forcibly sweep under the rug, attempting to convince us that what we see isn't true, and instead, the truth is whatever they want it to be.

The difference in intelligence (meaning what that actually implies—let's skip all that "emotional" or "social" intelligence and similar New Age nonsense) between Caucasians and African Americans isn't noticeable in everyday life, which mostly consists of routine stuff. In that arena, African Americans don't lag behind at all; if anything, they excel. That gap becomes more apparent as the complexity and unpredictability of the tasks facing people increase. That’s why, in extreme situations, it's Caucasians who step up and take responsibility. That's why the exceptional, top-tier works in every field of human activity are the work of Caucasians.

But for their own good and the good of the community, they took on the jobs they were designed for and capable of, which in turn allowed Caucasians to do their own thing. African Americans took over physical labor, like construction, digging canals, working in public utilities, and agriculture—mostly occupations that don't require intense mental effort. Just as Caucasians developed the traits and skills needed to interact with the outside world (to say nothing of the struggle for survival) over centuries, African Americans developed the abilities and traits that were necessary for their specific tasks.

Discrimination is an active choice. It’s refusing someone a job because they’re a woman, Black, White, Japanese, or brown-eyed, and so on.

Claiming that women or blondes get under your skin is just your opinion, and you're entitled to it. Likewise, others are entitled to think your opinion is complete nonsense.

As for what Alex Barnes8 allows, you'll have to ask her. It's no secret that my views on what should be permitted and hers don't align in the slightest.

Wait, so speech isn't an active move?

Since nobody here is actually handing out jobs on this Reddit, based on your logic, there shouldn't be any discrimination happening at all.
In a previous post, you said this:
If he was calling for women to be killed, firing them, or some other crap, then I'd agree. But he wasn't saying that, so the law shouldn't get involved here. A person has a right to their opinion, and to express it, no matter how much it gets under your skin. I'm sure there are people whose opinions get under yours too, yet you're still posting here.

That’s hate speech, and from what I know, it’s punishable by 500 points—but why?
Is anyone here actually going to go out and kill someone because of a post?😕 Why would they?

Or is it considered incitement to hatred, creating a hostile environment through that kind of behavior?

The law doesn't just talk about direct discrimination; it covers the broader definition, which is pretty obvious from the misdemeanor provisions.

MISDEMEANOR PROVISIONS
Article 25.
(1) Anyone who, with the intent to cause fear in another or to create a hostile, humiliating, or offensive environment based on differences in race, ethnicity, skin color, sex, language, religion, political or other beliefs, national or social origin, economic status, union membership, social standing, marital or family status, age, health status, disability, genetic heritage, gender identity, or sexual orientation, violates their dignity, shall be punished for a misdemeanor with a fine ranging from $5,000.00 to $10000.

So now, tell me and the rest of the admin—even though I know you won't give a straight yes or no—tell me how this kind of talk in my post doesn't create a humiliating or offensive environment here on the site.

Look, I get that everyone has their own views and I'm not against anyone expressing them, but we really need tools to show other users that this type of speech isn't appropriate for a quality discussion.

Especially if this kind of talk happens in a thread about Black rights. That's not just provocative; it's honestly just a massive joke.

If we can't say homosexuals are sick—even though plenty of people here think so—if we can't say religious people are narrow-minded and stupid, if we can't say Jewish people are...
So I guess if we're playing by those rules, calling Muslims terrorists isn't allowed either, right?

Besides, you can't even show up on Reddit just to spout off whatever random nonsense you think is true even though everyone's supposed to have their own opinion.

So, we're diving into the whole mess regarding civil rights law.

So, if I'm actually following what's being said here, we can basically just claim that homosexuals are sick too, right? Just a thought. 😕

Just to be clear, Reddit is primarily a place for people to swap ideas—I want to emphasize that here. Simply stating that being gay is a sickness is a generalization, sure, but there are plenty of threads where users have laid out their reasoning for that view without getting their posts nuked. People have the right to their opinions, no matter how controversial, and they have the right to voice them here. That said, whether a post gets flagged really depends on the specific context and how it's argued. Even people who view homosexuality as an illness have the right to hold and express that view, provided they stay within the rules outlined in our guidelines and the PDF.

Long story short, that post isn't getting a strike because the user is already banned, so the administration has already had its say.

Look, you being banned for some technicality doesn't mean squat about where the admins actually stand on this kind of speech.

The posts I put up weren't deleted or penalized at all. The admins made their decision based on the user, not based on what he was saying, so let's not act stupid.

Based on those posts and your little lecture on freedom of speech, I've come to a few conclusions:

1. So, from here on out, it's totally fine to reasonably belittle and insult specific groups or subcultures based on personal views, all under the glorious banner of free speech?

2. Or am I wrong in thinking the admins agree that we can collectively, and quite politely, humiliate anyone who thinks differently in the name of "cultural discussion" and debate?!?!

Good to know. ☕

Not quite. Sometimes moderators skip the formal warning and just go straight to a ban because it’s easier than playing whack-a-mole. It actually makes things harder later on, though, because once someone starts posting as a banned user's clone, any mod can jump in and shut them down instantly.

No. You can express an opinion as long as it's backed by arguments, follows the Reddit rules and the site guidelines, and stays relevant to the topic. Whether that happens is up to the administration to decide.

I don't really see how much better this option actually is when you've got a bunch of echo chambers cheering each other on under those posts, staying active long enough to basically strip a guy of his belt and drag the whole conversation into some totally useless direction.

So, basically, when someone gets banned, the admins decide all their previous posts are suddenly worth absolutely nothing. I honestly can’t believe I’m reading such pure idiocy, let alone that you’re actually the one typing it out. A person could drop a mountain of brilliant content, but then slip up with a couple of hate speech comments and suddenly everything they ever wrote is trashed? Give me a break. Their work can still be damn near perfect even if they messed up once or twice.

Nice try, but that’s a pretty weak attempt at making excuses for how the admins handled things.

Look, just so we're all on the same page here—regardless of who actually typed this out or what kind of mess the context is...

Is this just me, or is this straight-up humiliating and incredibly insulting?
I honestly don't get why everyone's walking on eggshells and being so damn diplomatic about this. 😕
So, do you guys actually have a consistent policy on what counts as harassment or hate speech, or are we just deciding based on who’s typing and where they’re posting?

[Maybe it’s finally time to just drop some truth bombs here. People today seem to operate on this whole premise that African Americans are basically identical to Caucasians in every single way, so they should naturally occupy an equal role in society. That's pretty much the core of liberal ideology—it refuses to acknowledge any difference between us other than skin color. It completely ignores the glaringly obvious fact that, through evolution, Caucasians developed differently, both biologically and intellectually, just to meet the specific demands of survival.

Let’s just be real for a second here. When you look at the averages, Caucasians are inherently more intelligent Than African Americans. I'm talking about the big picture—not just physical stuff, but intellectual capacity too. For an entire century, IQ tests have consistently shown that Caucasians score about 3-5% higher on average. But fine, let's toss those tests out the window since everyone loves to argue they aren't totally reliable anyway. Let's just look at how things actually play out in the real world.

Let’s be real for a second: Caucasians have basically built everything the human race has ever touched. We’re talking civilizations, culture, tech, science, architecture, philosophy, art, entertainment—it’s all been driven by white people. What about the contribution from African Americans? Honestly, it's practically nonexistent. Even though they make up over 50 percent of the population, they haven't contributed even a fraction of a percent to the major achievements in any of those fields.

Look, I’m not here to bash anyone or try to drag anyone down, but let's just call a spade a spade—I'm just pointing out some blatant facts that this whole "modern liberalism" crowd and their endless parade of equality-obsessed ideologies desperately try to sweep under the rug, acting like they can somehow gaslight us into believing their little fantasies instead of what’s actually happening right in front of our eyes.

Look, if we’re actually talking about intelligence—and I mean real intellect, not that New Age "emotional intelligence" or "social intelligence" nonsense people love to throw around these days—you don't really see any massive gap in day-to-day life. In a routine environment, Black Americans hold their own just fine, honestly. But the second things get complicated and the tasks start getting unpredictable and demanding, that's when the divide starts showing up. That's exactly why, when things hit the fan in extreme situations, it's White Americans who step up to take charge. It's also why the absolute peak achievements across basically every field of human endeavor tend to come from White Americans.

Basically, they stepped up and took on the roles they were built for, which actually helped everyone out by letting white people focus on their own thing. Black Americans handled the heavy lifting—stuff like construction, digging trenches, utility work, and farming—mostly those jobs that don't exactly require a PhD to pull off. And since white people spent centuries honing the skills needed to navigate the outside world, Black Americans developed their own specific strengths and traits that made them perfect for the tasks they were handling.

Short answer: yes or no?

Daniel Ward87 said:Not quite. Sometimes moderators skip the formal warning and just go straight to a ban because it’s easier than playing whack-a-mole. It actually makes things harder later on, though, because once someone starts posting as a banned user's clone, any mod can jump in and shut them down instantly.

We aren't playing dumb; seeing "banned" right under a user's name pretty much tells you exactly where the administration stands on those kinds of posts.

No. You can express an opinion as long as it's backed by arguments, follows the Reddit rules and the site guidelines, and stays relevant to the topic. Whether that happens is up to the administration to decide.

Nah.

The administration doesn't agree with that. Nobody in admin supports belittling people just because they disagree.

Just doing our part for the people.

If only.

If the admins feel like they need to, they can always just delete those posts and wipe them from the record.

Even the nicest people around don't go posting hate speech unless they're having a seriously rough day—which happens to the best of us. I’ve personally handed out warnings to perfectly decent users when I was feeling heated. People don't just get banned, let alone permabanned, just because a moderator is having a momentary meltdown.

To me, that’s just a baseless generalization, which honestly deserves a penalty. The user ended up getting a permaban, and if I remember correctly, this isn't even his first time pulling that kind of stunt. If the reason for the ban was being a "clone account of a banned user," that shouldn't be an issue once you understand why the original account got nuked in the first place.

As for getting everyone on the same page about what actually counts as hate speech, I’ve already touched on how that whole assessment process works.

Short answer? Exactly where it says so, no.

It’s pretty damn obvious he thinks it shouldn't happen.

If it's actually against the rules, then why hasn't anyone pulled the trigger on sanctions yet? Like, if this is supposed to be hate speech and straight-up harassment, why hasn't anyone bothered to flag it as such?

Based on how things usually go down around here, you guys just wait until his credit check clears before you actually sanction him, rather than just nuking his posts.
So, did you guys just go after the users themselves, or was it actually their posts that got flagged? Sorry, but I am totally lost here.

And that’s not even the best part! Like, how is a regular user supposed to actually know why some random lurker got permabanned in the first place? For all we know, it could just be a temporary thing because they said some totally mindless nonsense. 🤷

Look, let’s be real: I’ve never actually written a post like this on Reddit before, not in this format anyway. But honestly, I'm dying to know—what would actually happen in the real world if this were true, outside of our little PKZ bubble?

Claiming that women or blondes get under your skin is just your opinion, and you're entitled to it. Likewise, others are entitled to think your opinion is complete nonsense.

As for what Alex Barnes8 allows, you'll have to ask her. It's no secret that my views on what should be permitted and hers don't align in the slightest.

Writing on a public forum—it’s an active pursuit, isn't it?

Say that certain women or blondes get under your skin—that’s your opinion, and you have every right to hold it. Of course, others have just as much right to think your opinion is absolute garbage.

Sure, you might have some evidence—but does that really give you the right to make sweeping generalizations about the entire group?

If you want to know what Nice actually permits—well, just go ask her. It’s common knowledge that my take on what should be allowed is worlds apart from hers—not even close.

It’s telling, really—you all find such perfect consensus when it comes to debating extremists or creationism, yet the moment anyone tries to call out the disparagement of women, suddenly there’s a thousand excuses and an endless plea for "free speech."
Just like "distinctive styles"—as if that even matters.

What will they say when they realize that none of you—regardless of gender—actually has a clue where this ship is heading? And the worst part—we’re all responsible for the wreck.

Sorry if that’s totally confusing for you, but I'm done arguing about it.
