I recently picked up a 256GB card on eBay, and I'm certain the capacity isn't fake. I put it into an adapter and connected everything to my PC for storage.

After formatting it, I moved a massive amount of data over. However, I can't figure out why the files vanish every time I unplug the drive from my computer. For instance, if I load a movie onto the card and plug it into my TV to watch, the card shows up empty. It isn't an issue with the TV, because when I plug it back into the PC, everything is gone.

So, is this a problem with the card being a dud, or is the adapter the culprit?

Let me know what you think.

How much did you end up paying for the card?

Problem solved! It turns out I just needed to format it to NTFS instead of FAT32...😵

And I actually paid $12 for this...

If you actually manage to fill this thing with 200 GB of data and everything stays readable—well, I’ll publicly issue a formal apology to the manufacturers in China.

Usually, though, branded cards like this don't even drop below $100.

I'm probably gonna join in on the apologies and grab the same one if everything pans out

Honestly, though? I’m more interested in how many times you can pull off a stunt like that before the whole thing inevitably gives up the ghost. 😁

Some of them are going for as little as 8 bucks. I mean, let's be real—who’s actually going to drop their money on an external hard drive when you can snag 250 gigs for about the price of three craft beers at a local pub?

It might say 8TB on the label, but the real question is how much actual data you can realistically cram onto it before it hits a wall.

[HEADING=1]I just downloaded h2testw—it's a little tool you can use to scan a memory card to see if the capacity is actually legit.[/HEADING]
