Sabotage (2014)

Right after that prison break with Sly this November in the upcoming action feast Escape Plan, Arnold Schwarzenegger is teaming up with the DEA, playing commando leader John 'Breacher' Wharton in the action thriller Sabotage .

Basically, once Breacher and his squad hit a drug cartel's safe house and make off with millions of dollars in loot, they stash it somewhere secure—only for a mysterious assassin to start picking them off one by one. Of course, that is until they run into Schwarzenegger. 😁

In this flick, starring alongside Arnie, we've got Billy Worthington (Monster), Mireille Enos (Lizzy), Joe Manganiello (Grinder), Terrence Howard (Sugar), Josh Holloway (Neck), Olivia Williams (investigator Carolina Brentwood), Max Martini (Pyro), and Gary Grubbs (Lou Cantrell), all under the direction of David Ayer (the guy behind U-571, Training Day, and S.W.A.T.).

Believe it or not, the movie is partially based on the novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. 🤣 It hits American theaters on January 24th next year, and just as a heads-up, it was previously titled Ten and Breacher .

When I first saw the title, I honestly thought it was talking about the Hitchcock film Sabotage.🤣

I see how it hasn't been posted yet trailer 2 , just a heads-up that the movie is actually hitting theaters a bit earlier—March 28th.

It’s the same old story here in the USA. 🙂 While absolute nonsense like Divergent pulls in massive piles of cash, the mindless masses still don't give Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone the respect they deserve. Just look at the terrible opening for Sabotage, which only pulled in $5.3 million during its first weekend—barely enough to land it in seventh place at the box office.

But hey, let's just hope audiences in other parts of the world carry the film, much like what happened with Escape Plan.

Yeah, a pretty weak start... honestly kind of surprising.

Nah, let's just hope the international crowds pick up the slack, kinda like how things played out with Escape Plan.

I had to go double-check what you were talking about, and now I see the movie actually cleared something like a hundred mil in pure profit... 😁Not bad at all.

But why even be surprised when it comes to the younger crowd? It's unlikely they're going to be drawn to some old-school tough guy. Most of our generation grew up on action flicks starring Sly, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Norris, Bronson, and guys like them. We practically lived on those movies, watching them on VHS tapes at the local video rental shop.

Back then, you couldn't just watch any movie whenever you wanted like you can today thanks to the internet. If someone had a really good flick, that tape would get passed around from friend to friend until it literally fell apart. 😬

Lately, it feels like this whole wave of films—the kind that would have been massive hits in the 80s before becoming all-time cult classics—has just been flopping on the US market.
You look at Judge Dredd, John Carter, and those two Arnold Schwarzenegger comeback flicks. It’s honestly wild how much audience tastes have shifted.

I honestly don't get why everyone hypes up Judge Dredd and John Carter so much—both of those movies are just total garbage... like, double the disappointment. On the flip side, Escape Plan was actually great... and if we're talking about those gritty 80s anti-hero flicks, Charles Bronson absolutely destroys them all—he’d eat them up for breakfast and still be hungry for lunch. Still, Arnold Schwarzenegger seems to have that luck where he lands work with top-tier directors, so he definitely has more solid hits than Rambo does.

Look, Carter is definitely a dud, but Judge Dredd is easily one of the best sci-fi action flicks from the last few years. Compared to that Stallone movie, it's practically a masterpiece...

Escape Plan is actually pretty great though...

Nah, it’s just a decent enough flick. Honestly? It's crap. Just cliché after cliché, bad acting, and even worse writing. Luckily, it doesn't take itself seriously, which is the only reason it's fun to watch...

out of all those 80s tough guys... Charles Bronson would eat them all for breakfast and still be hungry for lunch.... though Arnold gets lucky working with top-tier directors, so he ends up with more solid stuff than Rambo...

I’ve always had a soft spot for old-school mrgud, but his movies—with all due respect to Shaky—are mostly just bottom-of-the-barrel B-movies where he isn't really acting and there's barely a script to speak of. Sly, on the other hand, actually tried to branch out, which is why he’s got things like Rocky, Copland, F.I.S.T., and an Oscar in his credits...

Carter is a fantastic film.

The real issue with comeback movies from these two is that they just peddle old tropes and tired clichés, all while losing whatever charm they once had...
The Last Stand is a textbook example of that.

When it comes to Arnold Schwarzenegger, I’ve always seen him as an actor who isn't exactly a master of the craft, BUT, man, he is incredibly charismatic and everyone just loves him. 😉

That trailer looks like some solid, old-school, high-octane action. Definitely worth a watch 👍

Just the lead actor's name alone is enough to recommend this excellent piece of celluloid—it's loosely based on the Agatha Christie novel Ten Little Niggers.
Honestly, this is Arnold Schwarzenegger's best film since... well, it's been a long time.
Unlike his older action flicks, which were sort of, you know, breezy, this is a completely serious and dark action thriller—actually, it's bordering on a gritty little drama.
If you're sitting there expecting the standard Arnold Schwarzenegger one-liners and all that goofing off, you aren't going to get it—at least, not nearly as much as back in the day.
The witty remarks here feel more like curses; they're spat through gritted teeth and sound bitter and harsh—the character Arnold plays is a deeply wounded man haunted by his past, much like the former cop Jericho Cane from End of Days (that's the movie where he fights Satan himself using bursts from his shotgun)—but Schwarzenegger has matured as an actor during his years as governor; he’s grown up, he’s serious, his character just radiates presence and dominates the scene, and his charisma was never even a question!!!
The rest of the ensemble is just as great—action heroes caught up in mysterious murders—these people in this film actually act rather than just shooting things.
Sabotage is a heavy film, full of darkness, brutal murders in the middle of nowhere, backstabbing, and characters with deviant behavior and language—most of whom meet a violent end.
Blood up to the knees! Seriously—no messing around here!
Highly recommended for men with stronger nerves.
Rating: 10 out of 10, obviously!

Honestly, this one is a bit much, even for Arnold Schwarzenegger. The plot development is so ridiculous you can't even relax and enjoy it. I liked the ending a little, but everything leading up to it was just too predictable. Right now, Sly is doing much better with his comeback films. 🙂
