How moderators should be chosen

Look, let's be clear. I'm all for having a discussion with the subforum members before installing a new mod, but I'm totally against adding unnecessary layers of bureaucracy. We shouldn't be creating rules just to check a box, especially when the end result is just swapping one undemocratic system for another. Don't take this personally.

IIRC, unless there’s a legitimate reason to object to a candidate, that "rule" doesn't actually get used. Honestly, mod elections usually go pretty smoothly.

Let it stay, but the overall impact through the whole voting process would definitely be lessened.

I’ve always been fascinated by these endless, circular threads that just loop around forever. It’s obvious to everyone that they aren't going anywhere—honestly, the whole concept is pretty dim-witted—but they just keep spinning. It’s just as fascinating to me as those self-proclaimed "political experts" and "forum reorganization specialists" who signed up fifteen days ago and already have 346 posts, 345 of which are all crammed into this single topic. (I bet the first one was something like, "I've been lurking for ages, so I figured I'd finally chime in with a quick word..." )

It’d be great if that were true, because it would mean people actually respect the mods and the staff on that PDF. Forum opinions are always going to be a mess anyway...
But I still don't get it—are there actually cases where someone jumps in with an 85th PDF just to block a mod from getting installed?
What kind of "legitimate reasons" would actually stop a user from becoming a mod?

I'm picturing a scenario where Mara jumps in from the health sub and blocks Zika from being a mod on the soap forums, just because way back when, Zika posted some bad medical advice as "therapy" for the users... 😵

And it wouldn't even matter that Mara doesn't even post on the soap boards, or that Zika already convinced the mods he's constructive and will be a massive help with their workload... 😵

I still don't see why I feel the need to read every single thing on this forum... 🙂

Once I finally land a moderator spot over at ŽK, I’m going to implement a very streamlined process to deal with all those people claiming men don't belong there, or insisting that any man posting on ŽK must be gay, or acting like beautiful women are just skeletons measuring 5'9" and 110 lbs.

So, consider this my official pitch: give me your votes and let justice prevail!!

Generally, it goes pretty smoothly. New mods get suggested by the staff on a specific PDF. Sometimes they’re already existing mods (which makes things way faster), and sometimes they’re just regular users (which slows things down a bit).

Someone can be super constructive and great on one PDF, but then act like a total jerk on another. In that case, it’s totally normal for a mod from that second PDF (or an admin) to be skeptical of them. But again—that doesn't mean some guy from a random PDF is going to stop a mod from being installed. It's not supposed to happen, but hey, anything can happen.

Besides, at the end of the day, the final call belongs to the admins and Anderlon.
