Comfort movies you can watch over and over again

If you happen to spot them popping up on your TV screen, it basically means you’ve already sat through them at least four or five times—if not way more than that!

To get us started, here’s my little starter list:

The 70s: Hair, those Godfather classics
The 80s: Pretty Woman, Dirty Dancing, The Abyss
The 90s: Forrest Gump, Dances with Wolves, Ghost
The 2000s: The Last Samurai
The 2010s: Life of Pi

There are probably a few others floating around in there somewhere, but this is just what I can pull from memory right now—you know how it goes!

+ Also, those Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) movies...

I have a huge list of movies I could watch any time. It’s not that I’m constantly watching them, but if they happen to be on when I'm looking for something, I’ll definitely pick them. I'll use your format to lay mine out.

50s: North by Northwest, Vertigo, Rear Window (honestly, it’s easier just to say "all the Hitchcock films from the 50s"), 12 Angry Men, On the Waterfront, Ben-Hur, Rio Bravo, The Searchers, Sunset Blvd, Quo Vadis, Paths of Glory

60s: The Great Escape, Dr. Strangelove, Easy Rider, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Planet of the Apes, The Pink Panther, Psycho, The Italian Job, James Bond: Goldfinger, Night of the Living Dead, Black Sabbath

70s: Star Wars IV, The Godfather 1 and 2, Rocky 1 and 2, The Sting, Halloween, TCM, Dawn of the Dead, Alien, Jaws, The French Connection, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The Driver

80s: Blade Runner, Star Wars V, The Terminator, Predator, Aliens, Die Hard, A Christmas Carol, Thief, Ghostbusters 1 and 2, Back to the Future 1 and 2, Indiana Jones 1, 2, and 3, Coming to America, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, The Breakfast Club, National Lampoon's Vacation, European Vacation, Christmas Vacation, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Thing, Day of the Dead, Escape from New York, Just Before Dawn, Burning, Scarface, Platoon. I should probably stop there—if I kept going with the 80s, I could spend all day listing comedies and horror flicks. For me, this was easily the best era.

90s: Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park, Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Home Alone 1 and 2, Ed Wood, The Usual Suspects, The Sixth Sense, Saving Private Ryan, The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Seven, Scream 1 and 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Kingpin. Same thing as the 80s, I could go on forever with this decade.

2000s: Big Fish, Lord of the Rings, Mulholland Drive, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dark Knight, No Country for Old Men, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2, [REC] 1 and 2, 28 Days Later, The Collector, Pineapple Express, Superbad, Borat, Jackass, etc.

2010s: The Conjuring, Baby Driver, Arrival, The Martian, Interstellar, Django Unchained, Blade Runner 2049, 50/50... there are definitely more.

I've seen every single one of these several times, but my absolute favorites have to be Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, Jaws, and Dawn of the Dead.

Last night, I happened to stumble upon "Apocalypse Now" playing on AMC... 🙏

Even though I had my recorder ready to go, I found myself having to wait just to catch that iconic moment where they say "I love the smell of napalm in the morning", all while being fully aware that getting out of bed this morning was going to be an absolute struggle... 😬

Man, I watched a ton of movies back when I was just a kid.

But honestly? Hardly anything since the turn of the millennium.

Legends of the Fall, Misery, A River Runs Through It... and honestly? Pretty much every single Miyazaki movie out there.

Ugh, there are just so many of them.
Take Bertolucci’s *The Last Emperor*, for instance.
I actually stumbled upon this old documentary just the other day—it was about an hour long, made back in 1988—and honestly, if you’re a fan of that film, it’s pure gold. It’s one of those deep dives where they give you all the behind-the-scenes context and extra stories from the actors themselves.
Anyway, that's why I'm bringing it up.

Man, I was just thinking about Terminator 1 and 2 again. Absolute classics. Honestly, nothing hits quite like them. They’re just perfect. Pure cinema. One is a total nightmare thriller and the other is this massive, heart-pounding action masterpiece. It's hard to find movies that hold up that well decades later without feeling dated or cheesy. These don't. They just work. Total heavy hitters.
Man, I was just sitting here thinking about those Predator movies. 1 and 2 are absolute classics. No contest. You can't beat that original vibe—just pure tension and that feeling of being hunted in the jungle. It’s iconic. Then you got the sequel, which hits different but still holds its own. Honestly, they just don't make sci-fi action like that anymore. Simple, effective, and totally badass.
Bloodsport. Just pure chaos.
Cut it out with the drama. Just relax.
The original Star Wars trilogy. IV, V, and VI. Pure gold.
Deadly Weapon 1, 2, and 3... plus that Immortal Weapon thing.
