So, like the title says, I’m wondering if it's actually possible to mount this Corsair Hydro Series cooler onto an LGA 1700 socket. This Intel Stock Cooler I'm using right now feels pretty underwhelming, so I’d much rather just put this thing I already own to good use.

It’s an older model, sure, but the cooling performance is solid and everything works fine. I really want to keep using it if there's a way. Back when this originally came out, the LGA 1700 socket didn't even exist, so I have no clue if the Intel mounting kit meant for LGA 1155 that came with the cooler will work here.

If that won't work, would a Cooler Master mounting kit for LGA 1200 be compatible with this Corsair unit? They look almost identical to Cooler Master coolers—honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Corsair was some sort of sub-brand for them or something. I suspect the mounting kits I got with it for LGA 1155 and other sockets are basically the same ones Cooler Master was using back then.

Or maybe I should just stop messing around and buy something new entirely. I'll probably end up going with a Core i5-12400 which only has a 65W TDP, so I don't even strictly need something heavy-duty. Still, it feels like a waste to toss a perfectly good cooler just because of a mounting issue.

Yeah, I doubt that’s even gonna work. Unless you’re just looking for an excuse to mess around with chemicals. I just picked up a Core i5-12400, threw it together yesterday, and went with a Cooler Master Hyper 212. It’s actually decent—super quiet—but idling at about 43C. Honestly, it could be lower, but I was "smart" enough to grab a micro-ATX case, so everything is cramped as hell and running hot. 😵

Yeah, I think I’m calling it quits on that solution. I did some deeper digging, and it turns out that if I go with that AM5 mounting kit, I'd actually have to swap out the brackets on the cooler itself where the Norton screws sit. My current setup doesn't even use the same mounting system. Apparently, it varies by model—some need the swap, some don't. I might get lucky, but there's no way for me to verify that without buying the kit first, which feels like a gamble.

Now I've got a different headache. I was looking at that same Noctua NH-D15 cooler and thinking about pairing it with this motherboard

ASUS ROG Strix B550-F

but those two capacitors sitting right between the socket and the RAM slots are bugging me. They look incredibly close to the socket.
I spent some time looking into how this specific cooler mounts

and I'm worried those capacitors are going to be an issue. When you actually seat the unit, are the mounting brackets higher than the capacitors? Or do they stay tucked closer to the socket than they appear to in that video? Would it actually clear? I really don't want to end up smashing those capacitors.
