Partial deletion of off-topic posts in the COVID thread

Morgan Peterson wiped out some posts that were definitely off-topic, but she conveniently left up the very first post that kicked this whole tangent off in the first place.

Here’s the warning from Morgan:

She basically says:
"Off-topic chatter and trolling have been nuked multiple times now. Before you start typing, read the thread title. This space is strictly for sharing personal experiences—your own or those of people close to you—following vaccination. Posts along the lines of 'billions of people died from the shot but they're hiding it' don't belong here."

But right above that, there’s this other post that says:
"I’ve been weighing the worst-case scenarios for both getting vaccinated and staying unvaccinated. I have a friend (31) who fought through COVID for 17 days straight; it left her mother with permanent lung damage, and this was back in December before any vaccines were even available. I think I made the right call because this woman was nearly on a ventilator, and even now, she's constantly seeing pulmonologists and allergists. The absolute worst-case scenario is pure suffering followed by death."

Is that an experience *after* vaccination? Hell no. So why is that still sitting there while my response to it got deleted?

Yet, directly above that, we find a post with the following content:

After all, this is a vaccine utilizing a novel mechanism, and the political pressure driving this is deeply unsettling—especially since they've already ordered doses for the next two or three years when we still know so little about the virus itself. On what basis was such a decision reached? Dealing with this pandemic feels like walking into a room where you can smell something rotting, yet you cannot find the source.

The post you responded to is only partially off-topic, but yours? Yours looks as if it fell straight from Mars onto this thread—particularly that bolded section, which is nothing more than blatant trolling.
Are there not already four or five other threads dedicated to discussing vaccination policy and politics, or do you feel the need to hijack this one too?
The question is rhetorical, and the answer is quite simple: no, you do not.

Look, I’m not even denying it—my post was totally off-topic. I get that.
But honestly, if we’re really going down the route of scrubbing threads, then that previous post should’ve been nuked too. It didn't mention anything about vaccine side effects either, just COVID.

The moderator just clarified that the other post was somewhat off-topic. Honestly, it’s totally at the moderator's discretion to decide if the value of an off-topic comment actually outweighs any chaos or distraction it might cause to the main thread. Sometimes, even a completely off-topic post gets to stay—it really just comes down to the context, how the conversation is flowing, what the content is actually about, and all that good stuff.
