hiddenmarlin14 As stated by:
My apologies in advance for reopening this discussion regarding those missing posts.
So, I woke up this morning to find my post count sitting at zero. To be fair—I spend most of my time over in the off-topic sections anyway. I've put together a few assignments here and there, and occasionally contributed to threads about earthquakes, Zud, or music—but let's be honest, it's been pretty rare.
Yesterday, I received a notification to select my assignments for the project they have running over there—but as of this morning, I’m looking at zero posts. It was pure luck that the coordinators had everything properly sorted and archived; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to track them down.
Look, I honestly don't get it—how did I manage to bottom out at zero? It’s just... baffling.
And why, for instance, does Rachel Richardson still have over 100,000 posts? 😳 I find it hard to believe that everyone is actually in agreement about including him in the encyclopedia. 😳
Look, if you're tired of explaining yourself—honestly, just delete this and close the thread. ☕
It looks just like my very first post. 🐔

Of course everyone is in favor of an encyclopedia—it’s a given. 😁
Daniel Kelly57 As follows:
The forum is being cleaned out and the archives are being deleted. What else would you expect? It’s the only logical step—really. If keeping track of your post count is such a massive burden for you, just jot down your total on a scrap of paper. Then, every time you write something down at home, you can do the math yourself if it's truly that much trouble. :Susan Kim91:

Boldly charging toward that 200,000 mark. 🍿
Jeremy Johnson18 said:They did this on purpose—it's clearly a reaction to you being paired up—especially since you keep showing up in that banned chat.
You can write that on Wikipedia too. Go ahead and mess with Americans then. : B

Walter Baker2 said:The odometer on my car just hit 28,555—or at least that's what it says now because the counter completely glitched out. In reality, the thing has actually cleared over 500,000 miles.

🤣
Rachel Palmer56 said:Is there any way to restore my post count? I’d really appreciate the help if possible. :hek la:
Look, let’s be real—I’m not giving up my own stuff, and I’m certainly not taking someone else's: o:rof l:

You're missing about 50,000 posts. 😲

I'm about fifty grand short, so I asked if they could fix my balance too, but they just totally ignored me. I wouldn't even have brought it up if I hadn't seen it was actually possible, but now I'm stuck dealing with this mess.

Turns out Maria Barnes is running things like "my stuff, my shop, I'll give it to whoever I feel like."🤷🙂

Can I just stay at zero forever? Honestly, I couldn't care less about that post count thing. 🤷

Only two posts yesterday, and absolutely zero today. I’m starting to get worried... at this rate, the counter might actually hit negative numbers. 🤣

The whole forum seems to have completely lost its mind lately 😱 , and since I see you’ve been registered since 2012, you probably have a massive post count by now, which makes me wonder what we’re all supposed to get out of this mess. 😲
It’s like they won't even touch Rachel Richardson. 🙂

I had about 2,000 posts before this latest wipeout. I wasn't shocked when they cleared out the old stuff—mostly just the off-topic threads from back when I was actually active—but seeing every single one of my posts nuked leaves me feeling like a total amateur compared to everyone else on this board. 😢 😁

While that might sound tempting😍 , it isn't really a smart move! 🙂

When it comes to posting, moderation is key. 🧐

If you overdo it, people on the Forum will think, "Look at this guy, he clearly has nothing better to do than hang out online."

But if you don't post enough, they'll brush you off by saying, "What do you know? You haven't even hit ten posts yet, so why should we listen to you?"

Scott Long71 said:You've got to be kidding me! So that's the catch! I've been sitting here for days wondering how on earth there are 800 or 1,000 concurrent users on the Social Science forum. That is an absolutely massive number for any sub-forum, let alone Linguistics. My mind has been racing through all sorts of theories... This is really interesting. Thanks for letting me know.

Russian Language/Русский язык — we speak Russian! — Chat

No problem at all. Just looking at the stats, this thread has racked up nearly 200,000 views in just a single day. I hadn't paid much attention to the concurrent user count before, but looking now, it’s almost matching the numbers over on the Automotive forum, which just doesn't seem right. Have you figured out what's actually going on?

After reading coppersailor28's post, I thought it might be a good idea to strip out that Russian suffix from the thread title. But there's definitely something else fishy here, because those concurrent user numbers are clearly way too high for a PDF discussion.
It just doesn't feel realistic to me that there's some army of idle trolls logging in just to spam-click on a single thread.

When it comes to posting frequency—one needs to find a middle ground. 🧐

If you overdo it, the users on the Forum will just say, "Look at this guy; he clearly doesn't have a life outside of the internet."

On the other hand, if you post too little, people will snap at you: "What do you even know? You haven't even hit 10 posts here, yet you're acting like an expert."

😁

You're suggesting it would be best if the counter just froze at 696, so 😬
Or maybe 6969? 🤔

But something else isn't adding up. The concurrent user count is clearly too high for a PDF.
It’s unrealistic to assume there's some army of idle idiots logging in just to click on this thread repeatedly.

No login required.
Just clicking one of those suggested results (clicking through a 'Google search result page')
which redirects to somewhere like an American Forum/subforum/thread/post... and the total view count increments by one...
I don't personally believe that's enough to cause such a massive spike, but the possibility remains.

(As for changing the thread name—why kill the goose that lays the golden eggs if the title is actually driving the clicks?)

coppersailor28 said:No one actually needs to be logged in.
Just clicking one of those search results (like clicking through a Google search result)
takes you straight to, say, a specific thread on a Forumpost... and that bumps the total view count up by one...
I honestly don't think that's enough to explain such a massive spike, but it's technically a possibility.

(As for changing the thread title, why mess with the chicken that lays the golden eggs—assuming the title is what's driving the clicks in the first place)

I totally get your point about how a click from a Google search result can increase the view count by one.
But what’s happening here feels off. I was logged in for quite a while last night, and I kept checking the number of active users on the Forum homepage.

On other boards where people are actively posting, there might be 100, 200, or 300 users online at once. Yet, over in Social Science, there were roughly 900 users active, but only two or three posts had actually been made.
Where are all these users coming from? We're talking about hundreds of registered members being on that specific thread at the exact same time without saying a word. I'm not saying the thread is garbage, but it clearly isn't the most engaging thing on the site, which you can tell by looking at the activity levels on much more popular boards.

It doesn't take a single logged-in user, let alone 900 of them, to inflate view counts by clicking around. If the admin has the ability to see exactly who is currently viewing a thread, it would make it much easier to figure out what's actually going on.

I honestly don't even have the energy to type this out anymore, but here we go again—today’s post count is looking about a thousand short, so 🤦 I was wondering if there is any way you could restore the posts for @hiddenmarlin14/">@@hiddenmarlin14?
Of course, if those threads were deleted along with them, then I know I'm out of luck and I'll just be stuck at zero like some guy who signed up yesterday, but I noticed
that even she shows 2,000 posts when she actually had 20,000 yesterday after they were restored, so I'm starting to think there's some glitch with the counter? I suspect the same thing is happening to my account,
since there's no way that many of my old threads could have been wiped all at once (I assume). 🙂

... No need for any users to be logged in, let alone 900 of them, just to inflate view counts by clicking. If the owner can see who's actually logged into a thread, he'll see what's really going on.

Maybe it's just various search engine bots (not just Google) /'bot's' updating their databases... but the number is still too high, especially since it's concentrated on a single thread. Though, it's possible Russian-language search engines are indexing that specific thread regularly if they find their particular result gets more clicks.

Or maybe it's smartest not to sweat it. Some things simply don't concern us average forum members. "Your eyes must be sparkling from noticing that. Thanks a million!", "Words can't describe how thrilled I am that you asked me this." and similar responses shouldn't always be taken at face value...

I'm just asking out of pure curiosity, but I basically agree with the consensus here. 👍
Let's leave this topic to the folks whose posts keep disappearing.

Wait, so does this one post actually count for ten regular ones now? 🤔 Because yesterday I had about twenty thousand 🐔

No, this is just ridiculous 🤣 if you don't know how things work, just stop nitpicking 🤔

So, here I am... they wiped out my first 100 posts just last week, and now I'm looking today and it seems like another 100 have vanished too. I guess they're just gone.
