If you scroll down, there's a simple visual explanation right there.

Hmm... so it really just comes down to the suspension setup—where the linkage attaches to either the top or the bottom of the cockpit? That seems to be the whole story.

steelmaker83 said:Fine, then he was uncompetitive.

And I don't follow your logic about Ferrari having a "wait for the neighbor to fail" tactic. They clearly didn't build the fastest car; Red Bull obviously figured that out in the second half of the season.

Ferrari isn't some opportunistic outfit waiting around a corner for results to happen. You aren't always going to be the fastest, but that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't win; you just use whatever tactical edge you have available.

It’s not like Ferrari doesn't want to build a car that's faster than the rest of the field.

Personally, I think Ferrari has turned into a purely opportunistic team over the last few years. It's a sad reality! 🤦

Spot on! 🤦

God, are we seriously gonna have to listen to his "expert" takes during Friday practice again? —if so, I might just go get my eardrums surgically removed right now.

😂😂

Just when I thought they wouldn't hand out any penalties for this, today actually happened... a little bit of a crackdown...🤣

It's like watching a classic courtroom drama... 🙏🙏 ...and honestly, we want more! 😁

In principle, sure. But obviously, every single option comes with its own set of consequences.

fadedwalker18 said:I’ll say it again: Ferrari has turned into an opportunistic outfit over the last few years. Literally. It’s a shame, really. 🤦

Boom. 🤦

Oh, sure. Because they failed to build the fastest car on the grid, yet somehow managed to be the only legitimate threat out there, they’re clearly just opportunists. Right. Naturally.

What happens once they finally build the fastest car on the planet? It’s an inevitable downward spiral. Once that milestone is hit, the novelty evaporates instantly. We'll see a desperate scramble for incremental gains—aerodynamics, tire compounds, fuel mixtures—just to shave off another tenth of a second. It becomes a redundant cycle of engineering overkill. Eventually, the tech outpaces the infrastructure, leaving us with machines that are essentially useless on any actual road. It’s just more expensive noise.

fadedwalker18 said:Goodness, honestly. 🤦 It really makes you wonder—do they honestly have to constantly reinvent themselves or scramble for new gimmicks just to keep pace with the competition? 🙂
What a total disaster. Are we officially entering panic mode yet? 🙂

🤦

Look, I don't think that first test is such a big deal anyway. Most of the cars heading to the season opener in Austin will have already undergone updates.
The first session is really just about making sure the car is functional—checking the brakes, the electronics, the cooling systems... the basics.
It’s a shame the exhaust and sidepods won't be ready by the second test, though. Last year, the top teams like McLaren and Red Bull spent the third test mostly running simulations on days three and four rather than bolting on new parts.

A pushrod pushes; a pullrod pulls. Simple as that. 😁

image

On the left, it's a pushrod. When the wheel hits a bump and moves upward, the rod pushes (push) the damper assembly.
On the right, it's also a pushrod. But when that wheel moves up, the rod actually pulls (pull) the damper assembly.

I don't think it gets any simpler than that. 😁

And the front suspension doesn't "attach" to the cockpit itself, but rather to the monocoque. The cockpit is just a part of the monocoque—basically, the opening where the driver sits.

Was Ferrari caught stealing another team's blueprints?
Was Ferrari caught blatantly cheating?

And as for them celebrating or profiting from someone else's misfortune? Honestly, isn't that the case with every other team on the grid?

Journalism at its absolute peak 🤦

thank God that wasn't the actual headline—"McLaren absolutely smoked the competition" would've been more accurate 🙄

I’ve dropped a bunch of testing photos right here—definitely take a close look at those incredibly slim sidepods on the Sauber car:

Latest update from the Marussia camp: apparently Max Chilton’s wreck earlier was due to a suspension failure.

They aren't fast, they aren't pretty, and they sure as hell aren't reliable. ☕

It isn't really that big of a difference, is it?

P.S. — Old Williams combined with the new nose. 😁

Jason Campbell70, look, your explanation was heading in the right direction, but you’ve definitely oversimplified things to a fault. It's like trying to explain the complexities of the US tax code by saying "you pay money to the government"—it technically touches on the subject, but it misses almost all the nuance required for a real understanding.

What a mess. 🤦 😁

Yeah, the left side is pushrod, the right is pullrod.
Even I get lost in my own explanations sometimes. 😁

Even Gary "The Engineer" Anderson praised the car, but let's be real—they're going to finish the season dead last with zero points.

Once they have the fastest car, they'll be the undisputed champions (like Fernando Alonso). It's as simple as that. Everything else right now is just waiting for someone else to slip up.

No. But look, engineers work on the car, and sometimes... how should I put this? They know what they want to achieve, but they don't always fully grasp the mechanics of how to get there. And knowing what you want isn't enough. You have to actually win.
