A total kaleidoscopic fever dream of pure terror and dread

My pick would have to be that scene from the movie Howl where an elderly lady is just sitting there on the floor next to her poor husband in a train car. Right after his transformation, of course (the poor guy). ☕

And let’s be honest—even if the technical quality might seem a bit dated by today’s standards, a classic like Nosferatu manages to tap into that primal dread. It leaves you with this nagging question that keeps you wide awake: how do you actually stay alert?

I mean, everyone needs their seven or eight hours of sleep, otherwise your eyelids just give out on you. But if you do drift off, any moment now, some creepy, slow-moving, rigid creature could show up at your door. He looks like a decent, thin old gentleman in a pressed black coat, but he’s got those two sharp little teeth that look just like a rodent's. Way worse than a mosquito bite. You can lock your doors, pull the covers over your head, but none of it matters. Your only real option is to stay awake 24/7. And if you catch a glimpse of him through a window in the building across the street? Well... he’ll be at your doorstep in two minutes flat if you happen to nod off. 🙂

For my third choice, I’d go with those scenes that describe horror without actually showing it. Take that one episode of The X-Files—I can't remember which one specifically—where this younger guy is born with this horrific defect where he has to consume a living person's liver, or he dies. In one scene, someone is left alone in a room with him, then the screen cuts away, but you can easily imagine what happened next. I found myself instinctively clutching my own abdomen while watching it. They never explain how he actually extracts the liver from a living person, which forces the viewer to speculate. Is it done with teeth? Or just bare hands since there aren't any tools or knives present? That alone makes it terrifying to think about, even without the actual gore being shown.

You know that vibe when some guy slaps a woman and then immediately posts a selfie of the whole thing on Facebook?
And then—get this—the Facebook crowd starts begging for more, basically egging him on until he actually stops hitting her...
Then, he just vanishes from the grid for a while.
Next thing you know, photos of the body start surfacing online.
Total creepypasta vibes. Except, the terrifying part is that it actually happened...
