I’ve got this monitor where a chunk of the screen is totally shot—take a look at the photo... I'm trying to figure out if it's actually worth dropping money on a repair shop, or if I should just bite the bullet and buy a new one instead?

Honestly, it isn’t worth trying to repair or service this. You might as well just toss it straight into electronic waste or maybe try selling it for parts on $33. We're talking about physical damage to the LCD panel here—it's essentially the same as if you took a fist to a computer monitor. Your only real option is a full panel replacement, which ends up being prohibitively expensive, often costing nearly as much as a brand-new unit once you factor in the headache of the service fees.☕

Thanks for letting me know. I was wondering—could I just donate it to some kind of parts service, or do those places usually just strip it down themselves once I drop it off at an e-waste center?

You can find a local electronics crew on Craigslist that buys up broken hardware. There’s also Facebook Marketplace, though honestly, the simplest move is probably just dropping it off at a local e-waste collection point...🍿
