Laptop USB port replacement/repair help

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for some advice or recommendations. Basically, the USB port on my laptop has gotten pretty loose—the mouse plug just wobbles around in there and keeps losing connection.

Do you think the only fix is replacing the actual USB port on the motherboard? If so, any idea what kind of damage I'm looking at financially? Also, does anyone know a reliable repair shop in the West Coast area you'd recommend?

Maybe try grabbing a screwdriver and gently tightening the port on the laptop side, and then perhaps you could slightly widen the connector on the mouse itself.

Check with a local repair shop in a Small town in the US Midwest.

Most of the time, those USB ports just snap right off the motherboard, and you usually end up with some of the four pins getting crushed or cracked too. You'll need to take it to a repair shop to see if they can just re-solder the connection, or if the whole port needs a total replacement—though sometimes a tech can scavenge a working one from an old junked motherboard.

You didn't mention which laptop model or brand you're running? Honestly, if it's an older machine, I wonder if it’s even worth the investment to upgrade... Also, what’s going on with your other USB ports? Is there something else plugged in taking up space? Personally, I think grabbing a simple USB hub might be the cheaper way to go.
