Thinking about upgrading my rig soon... honestly, this CPU just isn't cutting it anymore. It’s definitely struggling to keep up with all the newer games lately.
Here’s what I’m running right now:
So, I've been messing around with this Intel Core i5 4460 with ASUS H81 motherboard setup lately. Honestly? It’s a total blast from the past! It’s definitely not some high-end beast you'd find in a modern gaming rig, but man, it still gets the job done for basic stuff. Just a little nostalgic trip through my hardware drawer, haha.
So, I'm messing around with this Intel Core i5 4460 with ASUS H81 motherboard again. Just one of those days, you know?
Just picked up some 8GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX. Ready to get this build moving!

I was honestly leaning towards staying with Intel, so I’ve been eyeing that Intel Core i5-9400F. But man, I’m totally stuck on the pairing part—like, which budget motherboard should I grab to go with it? And what about the RAM speed? Should I be looking at 2400, 2666, or just jump straight to 3200 MHz? Any advice?
Honestly, ASRock hasn't really done it for me. My experience with them has been pretty underwhelming, to be real. Before that, I was running a Gigabyte board and man, that thing was actually solid.

Alright, day by day I'm grinding through this, and now this specific combo has me scratching my head a bit:

Got the mobo and RAM coming from Protis, though honestly, I’d probably just put that on a credit card plan

It works exactly as advertised, giving you that full 32 GB... though pushing an overclock doesn't seem very likely, at least based on my experience where I couldn't quite get it to work without a lot of struggle.

with some Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4
but man, I think I totally botched the motherboard choice.
The ASRock B450M Pro4 was out of stock, so I grabbed a Gigabyte B450M Gaming instead.
Honestly? It feels like a downgrade, especially since it only has two RAM slots.

Trying to record video with my Logitech Brio while running an audio program at the same time... my CPU hits 100% and the footage is super laggy. Decided it's time to swap out the motherboard, CPU, RAM, and GPU.

Well, here’s an idea, though choosing a graphics card really comes down to what you actually want and expect from your setup. An RX 570, RX 580, GTX 1650 Super, or a GTX 1660 Super would all be solid choices depending on how much extra you're willing to shell out.
Of course, you could always go even beefier if that's what you're after. 🙂

Everything should fit into the case without any issues.

Look, the 1600AF isn't going to cost you anywhere near $150.
