Black Friday PC build under $450?

Greetings, everyone. This marks my third or fourth time visiting this forum to seek advice on a new build. I have been a member here for nearly a decade, and I am returning because your collective expertise has been incredibly helpful in the past.

To be direct, I am looking for a gaming configuration. $1000 My budget is capped, and I do not need a monitor, keyboard, or any peripherals. I realize the budget is quite tight, but that is simply the reality of my situation. Ideally, I would like to take advantage of Black Friday sales to maximize my value. I am more than capable of assembling the system myself, so I don't mind ordering parts from various retailers. Since I live in the San Francisco area, I could even pick up certain components locally if necessary.

Given that Black Friday is approaching, I find myself wondering whether it is actually worth sourcing individual components from different stores, or if I should just wait. Is it possible to start ordering now, or is it wiser to hold off until the actual sale? I have noticed some pre-built systems being discounted at certain retailers, but I am somewhat skeptical about their quality. On the other hand, I have no desire to spend my time hunting through various shops to track down specific parts; it sounds exhausting.

What is your assessment? Should I attempt to put something together immediately, or would it be more prudent to reach out for a configuration recommendation just before Black Friday begins?

I guess you’ll have to make do with just two games installed on the SSD for a while. 😛

Maybe keep an eye out for some sales starting next week, though they might not be for what you actually need. The biggest ones should be around Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

It’s an old platform paired with a pretty weak CPU... you could probably find something with a similar GPU but a much better processor on a modern socket that actually allows for future upgrades.

Not really. Even if a newer GPU pairs better with it, you're stuck with a weak, outdated CPU. That "better than an i5" claim is basically useless unless we're talking about first-gen chips from 2009.

If you can snag it for $1200–$1800, maybe it’s worth it. You get a cheap, pre-built rig, sure—but it’s a dead-end platform with a total junk processor.
