A lovely duo...
I'll just say that when I walked into my penultimate job—a position I held for eight wonderful years—I was actually stepping in as a substitute for a colleague who had been stabbed in the chest by a high school student with a large kitchen knife, which happened after that teacher, by my own estimation, had already made a mess of things.
Without even touching upon how much mental energy and sheer effort it takes to maintain someone's attention, lecture, write, and teach for four or five hours straight, only to be buried under mountains of tedious, mostly redundant paperwork instead of just playing solitaire😛, while simultaneously navigating the grueling family crises of teenagers whose parents beg for help because you spend more time with these kids than they do—treating them almost like your own—it's worth emphasizing that this is anything but an easy or simple profession.
Furthermore, I find it quite refreshing when people refuse to be intimidated by federal bureaucrats or local petty officials who, out of pure spite, blow through an entire professor's salary on an expensive dinner at five in the afternoon, only to throw half of it away because they can't finish it anyway.
