My laptop won't power on at all. I can see the first blue indicator light glowing, but it seems like more than just a dead battery since it won't respond to the charger either...

Is the screen just blank, or is the whole unit dead?
If you've got an external monitor lying around, plug it in and see if anything actually shows up.
