Google Docs - How to reduce spacing after pressing enter

Hey everyone,
Scoured the first few pages and couldn't find anything similar, so I’m starting this thread. If the mods already have something like this floating around, feel free to move or delete this—I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

I used to use Microsoft Office, but I've switched over to Open. Now I'm running into an issue with the spacing whenever I hit enter. The gap is, to put it mildly, massive. When I'm typing and the cursor jumps to a new line, the settings look like this:

Line spacing: Proportional 115%

That part is fine; I'm perfectly happy with those settings. But the second I hit enter, the gap becomes extreme. For comparison, while I'm typing here on the forum, I have to hit enter twice (that is: 2 😉 times) just to get a decent space, and even then it doesn't come close to the huge void I get in Microsoft Word.

Should you add space before or space after when adjusting paragraph settings?

Thanks for the quick reply, but there's a space before the first letter at the margin.
Anyway, I managed to fix it myself:
Spacing below paragraph was the fix. It wasn't even a real issue; I was just being oblivious and didn't check my settings. My zoom was set to 110%, which made the standard spacing look massive to begin with. 🙄

That's correct. In Microsoft Word, you are looking for Line Spacing and Paragraph Spacing, whereas in Google Docs, those settings are labeled as Paragraph Spacing Above and Paragraph Spacing Below.

As for the first letter, isn't that what we call Indentation?
