Look, I don't have anything against you personally. [tinfoilhat]In fact, I think the two of us (along with everyone else on this board) are equally much victims in some twisted social experiment. Those guys sitting in the moderator corner are undoubtedly dying of laughter watching how they mess with our heads.[/tinfoilhat]

I’m sitting here at home unemployed, constantly glued to this forum. Even when I actually make it out of the house, I find myself checking Tapatalk every five minutes. I comment on every bit of nonsense and reread threads that have been recycled a hundred times already. If anyone asked, I’d tell them straight: I'm addicted. And yet, somehow, you manage to churn out more posts in 48 hours than I can in two weeks. No matter what time of day I log on or which thread I visit, I first have to wade through pages of nonsense from you and Panther. I put you both on ignore a while back, but my thumb gets tired of scrolling just to avoid you.

The two of you are absolute phenomena. What kind of force drives a person to be active 24/7? What kind of untapped, boring resource is hidden inside you? If the CIA or Zuckerberg over at Facebook ever catches wind of you, you're done for. They'll hook you up to machines and force you to generate random letter combinations for encryption. Chinese hackers will be filling up suicide prevention hotlines like idiots when they hit the wall of your verbal garbage.

Honestly, I think you need help. I don't know what's eating at you, and frankly, I don't care, but I do think stepping away from this forum would be a solid first step toward reclaiming control over your own life. My thoughts and prayers are with you for a recovery. Now, I’m putting you back on ignore. Good luck!

@Falco, I did. I just attempted to have a conversation with them first—I wasn't being insulting or anything. I felt it was a reasonable step to take before hitting that little red button.
As for everything else, look, I’m just trying to offer advice and be helpful.
The truth is, during these debates, I sometimes find the other forum members more important than the topic itself. For the most part, I try to remain constructive—and usually, the banter stays within the bounds of the subject matter anyway.
It really should be fine to discuss things in a more relaxed atmosphere.

@Zeko, I’ve reported post 🤦

To be honest, sometimes during a debate, I care more about the other people on the forum than the actual topic itself. I mostly try to stay constructive, and usually, the joking around stays within the spirit of the thread.

It's totally fine that you want help; I mentioned before that there's nothing wrong with that, and honestly, good for you.

But, truth be told, whenever a "less serious" thread gets started on LDS or anywhere else (I mention LDS because that's where those kinds of threads usually pop up), you're often right there in the middle of a train of pointless comments that don't really add anything.

+ And yeah, sure, some joking fits the vibe of certain threads—but that kind of banter wouldn't even happen if the topic didn't inspire a few of you to always stick to mocking things or just messing around.

I mean, people can argue intensely, or it can be heated, or it can be laid back; a discussion is still just a conversation among multiple people about the same subject from different perspectives, but that's not really the point...

My main point was that even when you don't have anything smart to say, you'll still leave a comment. If you don't have solid advice, but you see certain forum members you get along with, you'll jump in anyway.

Again, I really don't care how many threads you comment on or how many posts you drop per day, and I don't care if you decide to stop doing what I mentioned above. Even though it can be exhausting sometimes to scroll through several pages just to find comments that aren't from the same handful of people, at this rate, you might end up becoming a bit of a niche group... so, I guess it's up to you.

Carol Martinez94 said:Look, I’m not saying you’re some kind of villain, but I feel like you're being pretty hypocritical here—it's like you aren't really thinking through what you're typing. You're just talking for the sake of talking instead of actually standing behind your words. In this specific instance, you've jumped to the side of a guy who is (or probably already has) done the exact same thing to someone else that Melissa Nguyen2 did to you personally. But back then, you didn't care that half the forum was rallying to your defense, and you certainly didn't have this sudden urge to play 'devil's advocate' or preach about how everyone—even him—deserves love.
As for the people getting called out in this thread—yeah, they’re loud and they aren't exactly politically correct, sure, and maybe some of them deserve a warning or two, but at the end of the day, they're acting like actual human beings by reacting morally to some seriously subhuman posts and attitudes.
Anyway, I think we've officially beaten this topic to death.

The truth is, I'm the one who was victimized here, and it's becoming clearer by the minute.

Matthew Wilson50 said:It’s fine that you want to help—I’ve already mentioned there's nothing wrong with that, and I respect the intent.
However—and this is the reality—whenever a "less serious" thread opens up on NASA or similar platforms (I mention NASA because that's where these things usually start), you are among the first in line to join the parade of pointless comments that offer zero value.
And, of course, there is some trolling within certain threads—but that wouldn't happen if the topic hadn't inspired a handful of you to stick around just to mock, joke, or follow a similar pattern of behavior.
Look, people can debate fiercely, or they can keep it relaxed; a discussion is meant to be a conversation among many people about the same subject from various perspectives—but that's beside the point...
My point was simply this: even when you have nothing intelligent to contribute, you still feel the need to comment. When you lack actual advice, you see certain forum members you're friendly with and you jump in regardless.
Once again, I don't care how many threads you comment on or how many posts you churn out daily—nor do I care whether you decide to stop doing what I described above. It's just that while scrolling through several pages to find a single comment that isn't from your small group is exhausting, at this rate, you'll eventually catch on... so, it's up to you.

This thread shouldn't actually be about me.
Your intentions are good and you want to help, which I respect.👍
The subject was supposed to be about a female user who is being abusive—unpunished, and entirely unrelated to me.
I started the thread, the individual was penalized (though it seems she is continuing her behavior unabated).
The thread then spiraled, and people are still arguing off-topic over there.
It is a sad fact that most people here haven't commented on what is actually happening there—the unprovoked insults—but instead found it convenient to critique the person who started the thread.

I participate in many discussions, so perhaps my own patterns are more visible.
But things would likely play out the same way—perhaps even worse—without me (for some issues, an essay isn't required, and one can fix the mood online).
Certain things don't require long-winded explanations; my comments, or the lack thereof, won't make Google's posts any more interesting than they already are. Nor will they erase silvertiger11's creepy stories about the foil-hat conspiracy theorists.🤦

Thanks for the advice; I will attempt to keep it in mind.

Seriously, if the CIA or even Zuckerberg over at Facebook ever catches wind of you, you are totally doomed! I truly think you need some help. I'm sorry, you seem like a decent enough user, but I just don't get the motivation behind these posts; it honestly feels like pure malice.

There is a huge difference between telling someone to chill out because they're spamming without saying anything useful, and then waiting until you've put them on ignore to act like that, versus actually mocking and insulting someone whom you know didn't have any bad intentions toward you in the first place.

I really don't get it, but it doesn't leave a good impression—it looks like a little bit of jealousy or holding a grudge from something old and just waiting for the perfect moment to pounce! If that isn't it, then I am truly stumped.

He only filed a complaint because one female user called him out on the nonsense he was spewing. It’s nothing but pure spite and vindictiveness, especially since he was the one who started the whole thing with those provocations, basically steering the entire conversation toward a disaster just so he could try to bait her into getting banned, right?

Anyway, I’ve said my piece, so I’ll just leave it to the higher-ups now.

Oh, come on, isn't it totally normal that anyone would hit that report button or start a new thread if they aren't getting a response to their report—especially when they're being personally insulted? I really don't get why that's being labeled as "spiteful" or "manipulative," especially considering she actually admitted herself that she has half the people in this thread on ignore because she picked fights with everyone and called them all "intellectually stunted!"

Rachel Richardson didn't even show up to the thread after that, so were all the other people she insulted also considered "spiteful" or "vindictive" for provoking such a poor soul?

Look, even if you want to argue that they were, just look at me! In that specific thread (and even in others after I put her on ignore), I haven't replied to a single one of her posts or even mentioned her; I just kept talking to everyone else and completely ignored her and all her little jabs.

But now, just look at how many times she brings me up, mocks me, or tries to make me look bad in her own posts—I saw things like calling me a "fake saint" or saying I'm acting a certain way because I'm not replying to every single person who posted an ad—even though I never claimed to be a saint, far from it, and besides, why on earth would I bother responding to people I'm not even interested in? But why should I have to explain myself to *her*? On average, every second post she makes in that thread about why she can't find love is about me! And that's just in that one thread; she does it even more in others!

So am I the one being spiteful or trying to provoke her now? (Keep in mind, she was on total ignore for me! I didn't address her or even indirectly comment on anything she did).

To me, it honestly feels like you're just sitting there waiting for a chance to get back at Rachel Richardson and were just looking for any excuse to jump on him, because I never once saw him act petty or vindictive, whereas the girl really went way too far (not just with him) and it's only natural that someone would start a thread about it.

Matthew Anderson said:The user received a warning from me because that post was exactly what she deserved. The real issue here in the US, just like at NASA, is that a small group of you keeps flipping the entire topic 180 degrees into mindless chatting and a trollfest. I don't think you're stupid, but it's obvious to me that you're doing this just to trigger reactions from the other side and force them into getting banned when they eventually snap at you. That is, by definition, pure trolling. In fact, you openly admitted on that same thread that you were trolling. Therefore, if anyone deserves to be hit with warnings and partial bans, it's you guys for creating the problem, not the users who are just fed up with your posts.

Has anyone else noticed what Google pointed out? It’s funny how everyone stays perfectly silent whenever someone starts jumping all over people or trolling with those nasty, misogynistic comments, yet suddenly there isn't a single report to be found until someone finally snaps and fires back at them!

I honestly feel like it’s finally high time we brought back some much-needed, rigorous moderation, don't you think? Wouldn't it be just wonderful if we could nip all that constant chatting and trolling right in the bud from the very beginning, ensuring things stay on track from here on out?

So, just a heads-up that things aren't going to be getting any more relaxed around here when it comes to moderation! Who would even want a free-for-all like that, right?

Phiber, you’re such a sharp person and you've been around this forum way longer than I have, so I really trust your ability to read people! But honestly, don't you think that chatting wasn't actually meant to stir the pot or get anyone to buy into the drama? Is it really that crazy to think that in a thread about meeting someone new, if somebody mentions they're traveling, it wouldn't be totally natural for someone to jump in and ask, "Hey, where all have you traveled?" even if it's slightly off-topic? I truly don't believe there was any bad intent behind it at all! When this user started getting insulting, Wikipedia was just responding to her directly, so he definitely wasn't just chatting to provoke her, right?

Honestly, I don't think any of those folks were being foolish, and they certainly weren't acting out of malice! On the contrary, everything was done with the very best intentions in mind, and don't you just feel certain that this can all be smoothed over quite easily?

I'm really just a random passerby who doesn't actually know anyone mentioned here, but I just felt like saying that reading through NASA didn't make much sense to me at all because there's such an overwhelming amount of trolling from Wikipedia and Pantera users scattered across every single thread.
I really hope they don't end up ruining the vibe on the other subforums too.

(I realize this might go against the rules, so please feel free to give me a ban if you need to, but I just couldn't help myself 😁 )

Don't worry—I'm done for now. Take care. 🙂

There is a subtle distinction between trolling and outright insults.

If you actually paid attention to the nuances, you'd see I'm not trolling.
Trolling isn't simply expressing an opinion you happen to dislike—nor is it communicating in a style you find unpleasant (especially when it doesn't even concern you).
The Chatting phase happened; that's a fact.
But regardless, I've thoroughly enjoyed myself. 👋

There has to be a reason why I'm not exactly singing Wikipedia's praises, as you put it. To me, it seems perfectly logical. Maybe try reading the thread from the very beginning or just ask the author directly.

I'm truly sorry if my posts aren't leaving a stellar impression. Please, try to find some empathy in your heart. I mean, it's not like I'm some bigoted chauvinist or anything, but I suppose there's still hope for me yet.

Honestly, I could probably find a way to justify why you're acting this way, so don't even worry about it!

But look, if I were to ask what someone actually did to make you lash out like that—suggesting they need medical help and all that—I just don't think that gives anyone a pass to take it so personally, you know? Don't you think?

It really feels like you’re starting to hold a grudge against me too, almost like one of those creepy FBI informants who spend all their time dissecting other users' posts just to dig up dirt! Is it possible that when you don't vibe with how someone "carries" themselves, you just feel the need to shut them down? Because at the end of the day, there will always be people you just won't click with, even if they haven't done a single thing wrong to you. To me, it just seems wrong to insult someone or try to drag their reputation through the mud with irrelevant jabs just because you feel like you don't fit in with them or because you're trying to act superior, right? I mean, I have no idea if that's actually what's going on, but it's just my honest guess!

I feel terrible if my posts aren't giving off the best vibes. Please, try to have some heart and show me a little understanding. Look, I'm not homophobic or a chauvinist or anything, but surely there's still hope for me.

And there lies the core issue.
Look, I honestly thought you were a reasonable person.
Do you really believe it’s acceptable to speak about someone in the third person—to dissect them like this?
Simply because you disagree with her on certain topics?
If you find yourself at odds with someone over an idea, does it necessitate a blood feud?
Is there no middle ground here—no basic respect for a fellow speaker?
No actual discussion?
Are you just going to Copy Trump? 😬

@Zeko, wow. Just... wow.
Does the mere fact that someone writes in a way you dislike—their tone, their style—mean you immediately go for the jugular? Or start handing out labels like candy? 🤦

It is a deeper disappointment than the debate itself—it's the lack of decorum and the disregard for forum etiquette.
It seems that if you take a dislike to someone, your instinct is to try and erase them entirely—repeatedly, relentlessly, and without a second thought. It is pure ad hominem. 😲
You people are terrible. 😲

You guys are just awful 😲

So, basically, making the mistake of insulting someone by saying "you're normal"...—it's such a bore. You really should realize by now that everyone here thinks they're "special."😁

Honestly, we all just get worked up over some random topic sometimes, and then suddenly, here I am, giving you a piece of my mind. 😁

And don't even get me started on this "top-tier" moderation... happening right where it matters most, right? Ever since you lot decided to let this whole crowd of United States psychopaths and a massive swarm of clones move in—people obsessed with starting those "new" threads like: "Oh, I'm just so perfect, I'm improving every single day in every way possible, but I just don't get why nobody wants to date me, or even adopt me..." The US has turned into a literal dumping ground for toxic waste, and despite being warned about it over and over again, you guys just sat there, ignored the red flags, and came up with these "free-thinking" excuses to justify it all...

Now we're supposed to have some "tough" moderation? And that's going to fix everything... yeah, sure. Keep dreaming. 😵

A long time ago, I actually fell for the idea that the whole point of moderating was to keep your section of the forum interesting by engaging with people and guiding discussions, while making sure nobody dumped a bunch of trash all over the place...
But today, it's crystal clear to me: the real goal is just to have the biggest broom possible, so you can sweep as many users away as you can in one single go, and throw them as far as humanly possible.
