Hey everyone,
I’ve run into a bit of a snag...
My Razer Blade 15 is actually a pretty decent little beast—it's served me well so far.
It came out of the box with Windows 10 already installed, but that’s where my current headache begins.
I need to do a clean reinstall—the system is absolutely crawling with viruses (lesson learned: I am officially retiring from the torrent game forever). I’ve been scouring various sites, and the consensus seems to be:
1. Create a bootable USB drive
2. Force the BIOS to boot from it
3. Install Windows and then either
a) Enter the activation key
b) Or, if the data is still embedded in the motherboard, the system should just grab the key automatically.

But here’s where I’m stuck:
1. How do I even get into the BIOS? Every single time I power the thing on, it skips right past everything and lands straight on the Windows log-on screen.
2. How can I tell if the activation info is actually saved on the motherboard? And more importantly, how do I make sure I don't accidentally wipe it during the process?
3. Does anyone know how to find out what my actual activation code is?

Any help would be much appreciated!

If I were in your shoes, the very first thing I’d do is clone the drive, just as a safety net so you can roll back to how things are right now if everything goes sideways—you can use Acronis, Paragon, or Macrium, and they all have free versions available.

The quickest route is probably just hitting the factory reset option directly within Windows 10, which ought to wipe out any viruses you're dealing with--
1. head over to "Settings" (you'll find that icon in the bottom right corner)
2. pick "Update & Security"
3. look for "Recovery" in the menu
4. click "Get Started" under the "Reset this PC" section
5. then go ahead and select "Reset this PC"

Another way to handle it—if you want to get a bit more technical—is to mash the F9 key while the machine is booting up, before Windows actually loads.
1. Once it stops loading, choose "Troubleshoot"
2. Select "Reset Your PC"
3. When it asks, just hit "Yes"
4. You'll have to decide whether you want to just wipe the C drive or clear every single drive the system detects
5. Then there's the choice between just deleting your files or doing a full drive scrub; the latter takes a hell of a lot longer and is usually what people do when they're selling a laptop so the next guy can't dig through old data
6. Confirm it by clicking "Yes" or "OK"

I'm fairly certain both methods will keep your license intact.
But honestly, it's better to be safe than sorry and write down your activation key beforehand.
On most laptops, you can find it on a sticker underneath near the serial number.
If it isn't there, you can try pulling it with Keyfinder (https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/) or maybe ProduKey.

Just a heads up. Either of these paths is going to wipe your laptop completely clean, so make sure you move your documents, photos, and whatever else matters onto a thumb drive before you pull the trigger.

I won't go into quite as much detail as gentlecyclist16, but your situation is actually pretty straightforward—don't sweat it. Just grab the Windows installer directly from Microsoft's website for free, and use a tool like Rufus to create a bootable USB drive. Once you've got that ready, shut down your laptop (or just perform a reset) and either hit the quick boot option or jump straight into the BIOS. From there, you'll want to set that USB drive as your primary boot device so it kicks off the installation right away. To get into the BIOS or the quick boot menu, you'll usually need to tap F2, F8, F12, or the DELETE key—it really just depends on which manufacturer built your machine. Also, don't worry about finding a product key; since your Windows license is tied to your BIOS, once you reinstall and connect to the internet, Windows should activate automatically. That's pretty much it!

When you power up the laptop, try pressing and holding the Esc key. That should bring up the BIOS menu.
If that doesn't work, you're likely dealing with a UEFI BIOS.
Take a look at this link; there's a sequence of screenshots at the bottom that walks you through the whole process. You'll want to head into settings, then recovery...
