crimsonhawk23 said:I’ve said it five times now—there are zero restrictions on how this is used. Seriously, go grab a dictionary and look up what the word restriction actually means...

🤦

That isn't a restriction, it's an assist. So, you're saying they should brake manually and then just tap a button to close the DRS? Fine then—if that's how you feel, let's just strip away all the other driver aids too. I'm all for it...

Come on, don't embarrass yourself 🤦 I never said they should scrap the driver aids (🤣) — just the restrictions (it seems you still aren't quite grasping the meaning of the word 👍) regarding how DRS can be used. I'm saying this for the sixth time now.

The aid 🙏 🤣

I was actually going to ask you this:

Doesn't the DRS automatically close when they hit the brakes?

Just tell me first if I've got this right or if I'm totally off base—I honestly can't tell myself...

Alright, found it

The DRS will automatically be disabled (resetting the rear wing flap to its original position) the first time the driver uses the brakes after activation.

And then you say this:

Not all drivers would be ready for the same level of risk—so someone might close it up a bit earlier during braking, someone a bit later, and someone (looking at you, Max Verstappen) even later than everyone else.

So who's the crazy one here? Explain how anyone would close it BEFORE braking... unless they were already braking earlier?

Just tell me if I'm right or wrong here—I'm honestly not sure myself.

Kevin Magnussen showed that he isn't closing ☕

Even though your question about who convinced you that Otmar Szafnauer was the one to suggest you don't have access to a search engine makes me think you can probably browse sites other than this forum—so feel free to check this out: http://www.racecar-engineering.com/a...uction-system/

And please, let's skip the whole twisting my words and making things up that I didn't even say.

neonfox65 said:Oh, wait, found it.

And then you write this:

So, who's the crazy one here? How could someone be closing the door BEFORE braking unless they were already braking?

Good grief... 🤦

Oh, come on—stop messing with me, please. Seriously. Here, look for yourself on the official site... I can't believe we're actually looking back at the championship history like this—it really puts everything into perspective. Looking through these stats... man, it’s wild how much the game has changed over the years. Just seeing all those names listed there—some legends, some absolute icons—it makes you realize how much pressure these drivers are under every single weekend. It’s one thing to watch the race on TV, but to actually be in that seat? Unbelievable...

What does it say about that thing I mentioned—the part that's supposed to close automatically when you hit the brakes...

Honestly, asking me who Otmar Szafnauer is... that really makes me think you don't have access to a single search engine...

I was feeling too lazy to type it all out—so I figured I'd just have you write it for me...

neonfox65 said:Look, please stop messing with me. Here’s the official site https://www.formula1.com/en/champion...on_System.html

And what does it say about the part I quoted—that it closes automatically when braking?

I just didn't feel like typing it all out; I figured you could do the work for me.

Maybe try reading. And perhaps pick up some manners, too—it's generally considered impolite to put words in someone else's mouth. You're the only one claiming I said anyone closes their DRS before braking. Since reading seems to be a bit of a struggle for you, let me help:

crimsonhawk23 said:It would be easy for teams to figure out if a driver actually has the guts to clear a section without error while running an open DRS, especially with someone else breathing down their neck with theirs open, too. It might not swing the results significantly, but it would certainly make things more interesting. Anyway, Formula 1 leadership wants to reduce aero—downforce, really—taking a page out of the IndyCar playbook, and this would achieve both goals.

Because the current Mercedes-Benz wouldn't be able to navigate almost an entire track with an open DRS, whereas Red Bull could likely handle at least half the tracks on the calendar. That might actually close the gap a little. Eventually, everyone would adapt to the point where everything comes down to the driver's ability to push to the absolute limit. I think we can all agree that Carlos Sainz is a better driver than Lance Stroll, or Daniel Ricciardo over Nico Hulkenberg. Then you throw Max into the mix, since he's constantly dancing on the edge, which creates those interesting scenarios where one person brakes at 40m while another does it at 34. Six of one, half dozen of the other...

Unless you're colorblind (which, honestly, wouldn't surprise me), you'll notice I was talking about braking there as well—I even mentioned meters. But fine, keep trolling. It's probably easier than your reading comprehension.

Good grief, what a guy. 😵 I'm saying they should just lift the restrictions so whoever wants to use or open it can do so whenever they have the skill to handle it. This troll just latched onto the fact that I mentioned something I didn't actually say—about it not closing during braking. 🤣 Clearly, some people don't grasp that approaching a corner with an open DRS is a completely different beast than approaching it with a closed one, which is how it works everywhere outside of a DRS zone. 🤦

This is a tactical masterstroke by Vettel, truly brilliant 🙏
It’s called killing three birds with one stone 🙂

1. He starts ahead of Hamilton, yet right next to him...
2. Kimi starts directly in front of Hamilton, and we all know how Kimi handles starts...
3. Kimi is signing a new deal with Ferrari tonight 🙂

The race will clearly end with Vettel, Kimi, and Hamilton in the top spots ☕

A "masterstroke" would be starting on a clean line. Just look back over the last decade at how the second-place starters fared against the third-place starters at Indianapolis Motor Speedway!

You see things one way, but track perception is a different matter. I would be quite surprised if the Ferrari drivers could even manage to block the Mercedes from passing on either side at the start.

Let's set aside the fact that Hamilton starts behind Kimi on a clean line with slipstream, while Vettel starts on the dirty side without any slipstream in front of him.

Sure, it is possible for both Ferraris to execute perfect starts and shut out those behind them, but I am simply not convinced.

So, according to you, this is actually a brilliant tactical move by Vettel 🙂.

Do you even hear yourself when you write this?

Go install a PC simulator—you could even try it on a PlayStation or an Xbox—and then try blocking the guy in third place at the start.

Ferrari could potentially pivot toward supporting Vettel for the title—just to squeeze out more points against Hamilton—and might even lean on team orders at the Italian Grand Prix if Kimi Raikkonen manages to hold onto pole position during Sunday ahead of Vettel.

However, when pressed on whether Raikkonen would be given the green light to take the win tomorrow, Vettel noted: “If he’s starting from pole, I guess he’s allowed to win. It’s a long race. Obviously he wants to win, I want to win. Hopefully one of us will win.”

Vettel: I guess Kimi Raikkonen is allowed to win

Where on earth did you see me say someone closes the DRS before braking? You're making things up. But since reading seems to be a struggle for you, let me help out a bit:

This is what you actually said, quoting you here:
Not all drivers would be ready for the same level of risk, so someone might close it a little early during braking, someone later, and someone else—like Max—even later than everyone else.

So my question to you was: "Explain how someone would close it while braking UNLESS they were already braking earlier?"

Still waiting for an answer... 🙂

Man, what a guy... 😵 I just said if they lifted the restrictions, anyone could use it whenever they wanted based on their own skill and ability, and this troll jumps on the fact that I didn't explicitly mention the part about not closing it during braking. 🤣

But you literally wrote above that Kevin Magnussen demonstrated that it doesn't close, and then sent me some stupid link!🤦

Clearly, some people just can't grasp that braking is totally different when you're flying into a corner with the DRS open versus having it closed, which is how it works everywhere outside the DRS zones now.🤦

And what are you even saying now?🤦 I honestly can't follow you... you've lost the plot. First, you were trying to convince me in that other thread that Esteban Ocon wasn't defending himself, and now you're talking nonsense about DRS.🤦

neonfox65 said:That’s what you said—if I recall correctly.

What I was actually asking you was this—how would someone even manage to block him during braking BEFORE it happened, unless they had already started braking earlier?

Still waiting on an answer, I guess. 🙂

He’s addressing you directly in that quote—I guess if he’d stop nitpicking and actually used his brain, he might realize the guy was written in a way that would have landed him in jail long ago. During braking—I guess.I guess you see where he's going with that—he probably would have braked. During braking—if that’s even the right way to put it—it seems things get a bit shaky. He’d essentially close it—by braking, he’d shut down the DRS. Driver A would brake before Driver B, meaning Driver A closes their own DRS before Driver B even gets the chance. He’d just be braking and killing his own advantage. I even specified the braking points—40 and 34 meters—just to be clear. That's roughly the gap between our IQ levels—though I suppose I shouldn't risk a ban for saying that.

neonfox65 said:Well, you already mentioned up above that Kevin Magnussen showed he isn't easily shut out—and then you sent me that ridiculous link!🤦

Marcus Ericsson, not Kevin Magnussen—my mistake. ☕ I suppose there's some merit to this perspective—though it feels a bit speculative, perhaps. It’s an interesting take, I guess.
He braked—and didn't close the gap, I guess. ☕

neonfox65 said:I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that—I guess I might have misread the situation.🤦 I honestly can't wrap my head around you—you seem completely lost. In that other thread, you were actually trying to convince me that Esteban Ocon wasn't even defending himself.🤦 Now we're getting into some nonsense regarding DRS—I guess.

Of course. I suppose you're looking for me to get started—though I'm not entirely sure what we're aiming for yet. Maybe just give me a prompt? It’s hard to wrap one's head around it—I guess. 🙂

Unless you're colorblind (which wouldn't surprise me), you'll notice I actually mentioned braking there—I even specified the distance. But fine, keep trolling and being difficult. At least it's something you're good at, since reading clearly isn't.

What an idiot. 😵 All I said was that once they lift the restrictions, whoever wants to use it should be able to, based on what the drivers can actually handle. Yet this troll latches onto something I didn't even mention regarding closing it during braking. 🤣 It’s obvious some people just don't get that there's a massive difference between approaching a corner with the DRS open versus having it closed like it is everywhere outside the zones right now. 🤦

Just so everyone knows, I actually got a warning just for trying to explain to this guy that life isn't always meant to be taken so literally. He's one of those people who takes everything at face value, which apparently rubbed a lot of people on this forum the wrong way.

I suggested he might benefit from using a little imagination—both for his own sake and for others. After a few pointless replies, I realized he just doesn't have any, and clearly, the community didn't appreciate me pointing that out.

Anyway, back to the topic. As I mentioned in another post that a mod also deleted: Sebastian Vettel at Monza is taking the win, and the championship too.

I suggested he might help himself—and perhaps others—by using a bit more imagination. After a few fruitless posts, I realized he lacks that spark; he seems to be somewhat deficient in creativity, which I suppose didn't sit well with some people.

Ah, I agree. Thanks, 🙂. I managed to bypass the issue by utilizing a rather pleasant tool:

Nicholas Newman2 said:To stay on topic—as I mentioned in a previous post that a moderator also deleted—Sebastian Vettel at Monza could take the win, and maybe even the title.

It’s nice not rooting for any of the leaders; it lets me enjoy things regardless of the outcome 😁. I do agree with the sentiment, though, since that's what I'm hoping for too. Ferrari seems a bit better lately, showing consistent improvement from weekend to weekend (hopefully that guy above realizes we don't need a race every single weekend 🙄).

If it weren't for his mistakes in Baku and those blunders in Germany, Vettel could have had a comfortable lead by now. But I guess this way is a bit more tense and interesting 😬. It's been a great season so far, even if it's just a battle between two drivers and two teams.

Alright, what are you even picking on me for here?

crimsonhawk23 said:Kevin Magnussen showed he wasn't being cut off ☕

...when you know full well he was being cut off during braking.

It's right there in what you just quoted. If you'd stop nitpicking and actually use your brain, you'd see it says someone would have cut him off *during* braking. Get it? He’d be braking. He’d be cut off *while* braking. The act of braking is what closes the DRS. Driver A brakes before Driver B—I even specified the distances, the 40 and 34 meters. It's roughly the difference in our IQ levels (man, if I get a ban for this...).

Okay, but what's the actual difference between that and what we're looking at now? I don't really get what you're aiming for... what's your point?

Of course you can't wrap your head around it.

Look, nobody took your side regarding Esteban Ocon or even here.

Guys, can we move this DRS debate to a different thread? We're going to lose the plot here after just a few pages of posts.

Well, let the mod move it if they need to.

Personally, I’m fine because I don't root for any of the leaders, so I can just enjoy the show regardless of the outcome. 😁 But I agree with what was said because that's what I'm expecting too. Ferrari seems slightly better and more consistent from weekend to weekend (though hopefully that guy complaining above stops acting like there isn't a race every single weekend 🙄).

If Sebastian Vettel hadn't made those mistakes in Baku and during those blunders in Germany, he could have had a comfortable lead by now. But this way, things feel more intense and interesting. 😬 It’s been a great season so far, even if it is mostly just a battle between two drivers and two teams.

It’s funny how some people fly off the handle claiming Louie isn't at his usual level since the start of the season (which I agree with), yet they fail to see that Sebastian is also performing incredibly well. Instead of sitting on a solid 40-point lead, he seems to be trying to invent excuses about his car being barely competitive against Mercedes—or even worse—just to justify his protégé. Honestly, the blindness is frustrating, and it seems to affect even those who are biased toward Louie.

You get some decent constructive takes and some jokes here and there, but some people are just out to tear him down for no reason.
