I have a legitimate version of Norton, and today it prompted me to run an update... once it finished, it asked me to restart my laptop. After the reboot, instead of starting up normally, I got this error message: "Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing, or corrupt. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause."
I've used Norton for years and I've never had any issues with updates before.
I'm running genuine Windows and I have the recovery disc, but I honestly don't know how to proceed with it... the only thing I see noted on the disc is that using it to activate recovery will wipe all my previous data and settings, which is something I really want to avoid if possible.
Is there any way to save my files before I go through with the recovery disc?
