New high-end laptop is performing slower than my old budget one

Hey everyone,
picked up a new laptop about two weeks ago since my old one finally bit the dust—motherboard died on me.
It’s a Dell Inspiron 15 with an Intel Core i3 6006, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GT 920M, a 1TB HDD, and Windows 10 Enterprise 64

The thing is, it isn't any faster. Honestly, most of the time it actually feels slower than my old rig, which was an HP Pavilion Pentium 2020, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 720M, a 750GB HDD, and Windows 10 Pro 64

I mostly just use it for basic browsing and Microsoft Office spreadsheets, nothing heavy at all.
Besides the basic work apps, I haven't installed anything else. There's still over 900GB of free space left.

Everything I do feels sluggish and there's constant grinding noise coming from it.
Even opening a single photo takes forever, and the Start menu just hangs there.
Basically, everything is just way too slow for what's supposed to be a newer machine.

Is there a way to run some tests? Maybe a component is acting up?
By all accounts, this should be way faster than my old setup, but it's often even worse.

First things first, check your drive. Download either Seagate SeaTools or the LifeGuard Diagnostics utility from WDA and run those tests.

It might be running on the integrated CPU graphics. I'm not certain. Check your BIOS settings and the manual.
Maybe the drivers aren't installed correctly? If they aren't, that's a massive issue and likely why your speed is suffering.

... right-click that bottom bar and hit "Task Manager" ...check it out when things start lagging to see what's eating up your resources—is it the CPU, the hard drive, the RAM, or maybe the network?

It’s entirely possible they just picked up some kind of coin miner
