Laptop dead?!?

I’m honestly torn—should I just start prepping the trash can, or is there still a glimmer of hope?
So, here's the deal: every time I opened my laptop, the battery would pop out from the right side—it looks like some kind of internal clip finally snapped.
After that, I just kept pushing the battery back into the slot and everything seemed fine—until tonight, when it popped out again and now the laptop won't even turn on. I tried taking the battery out and putting it back in, and I noticed a little light glowing near the charging port. Please, if anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

Does anyone know where I could rent a laptop over the weekend? Thanks!

Try firing it up without the battery and snap a pic of the damage.

It was working fine before—now it won't budge. It’s still under its 5-year warranty, so we're heading to the repair shop soon.

I took a look, but I honestly don't see any physical damage at all.

The shop where we bought it actually recommended a specific service center, so we're dropping it off there this Monday.

You really ought to be more careful with the laptop. It is highly probable that you have damaged the connector or the port on the motherboard, though that shouldn't be an insurmountable issue.
If your needs aren't particularly demanding and you don't strictly require battery life, it would be far more cost-effective to just pick up a used older model on eBay for a couple hundred bucks.

If there isn't any visible external damage, they are legally obligated to honor the warranty. Battery casing fractures aren't exactly a standard occurrence under normal operating conditions. I say proceed with confidence. You can't be held liable for a structural failure like that.

It’s possible the battery swelled up enough to physically pop itself out of the laptop due to the pressure, potentially damaging other components in the process. Anyway, just wait and see what the technicians at Best Buy have to say about it.

Turns out the motherboard kicked the bucket—now we're just waiting to see if Geico covers it—otherwise they're asking for $500 before taxes😲😲😲

There is simply no logic in attempting a repair. Though, I suppose one could argue the issue is limited to the power supply... but that is merely speculation at this stage.
With that kind of capital at your disposal, you could secure an exceptional refurbished unit for roughly half the price. You can easily find a high-end used MacBook Pro or similar workstation for 500-$267 that handles video editing without breaking a sweat.

Great news! They finally gave the green light—now we're just waiting on them to settle the bill with the repair shop, and then they should have my laptop fixed up within five days.

Mind if I ask where you picked up that laptop? I’ve been noticing more and more retailers pushing those 5-year protection plans through various insurance companies lately...
