So, I was on this 4 mg daily buprenorphine regimen, right? But then I headed out to start my seasonal gig and—well, I ran out. Since the prescription only gets refilled once a week, I'm kind of stuck... and honestly, I can't deal with this. Does anyone here know if there’s a similar medication available via standard prescription that might work as a substitute? Because man, I am struggling... the sweating is unreal, I'm constantly nodding off, and the jitters are hitting me hard—which isn't great since I work in hospitality. I really can't afford to lose this job, especially since I need to stay on through September 15th. Any advice or insight would be a lifesaver. Thanks in advance for the help...

And honestly, you don't really have many options for a direct swap. Your best bet might be grabbing some Zoloft and just trying to white-knuckle it through. It hasn't been that long since you started, but I'm sure you're feeling pretty lousy right now. Seroxat is an option too, but let's face it—you aren't going to find that easily without a psychiatrist's note anyway. Honestly, just go see a specialist and tell them exactly what's going on. Personally? I’d say try to get off this stuff entirely. Hang in there for a few more days; you should start feeling a bit more human after a couple of weeks.

Why don't you just give your doctor a call and lay it all out for them? If they write you a physical prescription, someone can always swing by to pick it up and have it mailed straight to your house. Plus, if you sign off on your ID, they can easily set up a recurring order so you can just grab what you need at the pharmacy whenever it's time.

If they’re willing to write out a paper prescription, you could always have someone swing by the pharmacy to pick it up and mail it to you. Plus, if they just sign off on your insurance card, they can easily set up a recurring refill order. That way, you can just head down to the local CVS whenever you actually need it.

Look, it’s a controlled substance. Period. A psychiatrist has to write the prescription for that kind of stuff.

Actually, a psychiatrist provides the recommendation, but the VA issues the actual prescription, which you then fill at a pharmacy by showing your ID and insurance card.
From what I gather, he already has his recommendation, but the VA has to issue him a new prescription every single week. He should just sit down and work out a solid plan with his doctor to handle this.

From what I gather, he has his recommendation ready, but the clinic has to print out a new prescription for him every single week. He should probably just sit down and work out a solid plan with his doctor to handle this smoothly.

Well, look, if that's how it works, then fine—that's the deal. But if he's actually out of meds because he was buying them under the table, then that's a whole different story.
