I've got an old machine running Vista. Where can I actually find a decent version of Windows to install on it? Since the hardware is about 7 years old, what would be the best move here?

Look, if you actually want to figure out which version of Windows will run smoothly on your machine, you've gotta get a handle on the basics. We're talking hardware essentials—things like your motherboard, RAM, CPU, and whether you're running an HDD or an SSD.

I actually installed Windows 10 on this really old machine—we're talking a single-core processor and just 1GB of RAM—and honestly? It runs surprisingly well, mostly because Windows 10 isn't quite the resource hog people make it out to be.

Usually, you just head straight to Microsoft to get Windows.

If you’re hunting for something specific, like Windows 7, just throw "windows 7 download" into Google and see what pops up.
