New PC setup

Hey Dan, quick question for you. If I build a brand new PC from scratch and just swap my old drive over—you know, the one running macOS—can I just boot it up and have the system recognize all the new hardware? Like, can it just take everything in stride and run perfectly under these upgraded specs, even though the drive itself isn't new?

You can give it a shot, honestly... but seriously, back up all your personal files onto a thumb drive or an external hard drive first.
Sometimes you get lucky and the system actually boots up, though you’ll probably deal with a headache of endless restarts while it struggles to load drivers. Other times? It won't even let you run a repair.
Either way, you're better off just doing a clean install of macOS rather than following what was mentioned above, since you often end up with a bunch of leftover driver junk cluttering everything up.

That's not going to work.

The real headache here is the chipset—your old installation is hardwired to the previous one.
You could try running a repair using a USB stick. It shouldn't wipe your data, but honestly... just back everything up first, just in case.
