Well, I’m officially stuck too 🙂
I’m planning on picking up a new laptop to handle my daily routine—mostly Microsoft Office, browsing the web, streaming movies, and maybe some light photo editing or playing around with simple interior design software...
Right now, I’m still rocking my Dell Inspiron 5110, which has actually been fantastic. However, my lifestyle has changed a bit, and it’s become a real hassle to carry around because it’s just so bulky and heavy. That’s exactly why I’m leaning toward something more portable, maybe with a 13 or 14-inch screen.
Since I’ll admit I’m not exactly a tech wizard, I’m mostly looking at aesthetics. I really like the look of the Dell Inspiron 7359 (mainly because this Dell has served me so well up to this point), and I also have my eye on the MacBook Air. That said, since I’ve always used Windows, wouldn't switching to Apple require a significant learning curve to get used to a whole new operating system?
Does anyone have recommendations on what specific specs I should actually be looking for given my needs? I would truly appreciate any concrete suggestions you might have.
I realized I forgot to mention my budget. Naturally, the cheaper, the better 🙂 This Dell I’m currently using with Windows cost me about $2000 back when I bought it 4 or 5 years ago. If I could find something high-quality within that price range today, I’d be thrilled.
One thing I did forget to mention: the one thing that really bugs me about my current laptop is the screen. It’s very glossy, which makes it incredibly difficult to see when I’m outdoors or in a room flooded with sunlight (which happens for at least 2 or 3 hours every day).

The Dell is decent enough, though I’d probably suggest opting for the 1080p screen instead

It’s tough to find everything you need without completely blowing your budget. Those two options darkowl72 suggested are great, but the cheaper ones just don't have screens that stay readable in direct sunlight. Going for a better screen means paying more and carrying extra weight, which is annoying since most 15.6" laptops are already borderline heavy enough...

Anyway, those are solid choices, but if you're hunting for something close to perfect (since perfection doesn't actually exist 😬), you might want to check this one out:

Take a look at the attached review—it's pretty reliable. This thing is light (only 1.27kg), features one of the best matte screens out there with high brightness and contrast, has a magnesium/aluminum chassis, and the battery life is decent... it’s just a bit pricier. If you were planning on buying macOS anyway, the fact that it comes with the OS included might help offset the cost. 🤷
