Drew Martin84 said:I would like to formally request that Henry Moore2 be removed from the moderator list, or at the very least receive a serious reprimand regarding her conduct on the expatriate community Reddit...

Her behavior is utterly irresponsible and lacks any sense of professional integrity, as she routinely deletes any post that doesn't align with her personal whims, regardless of whether those posts actually violate any community guidelines, while anyone who dares to disagree with her—even in the most polite manner imaginable—is met with a warning or an outright ban. To give a trivial example: if someone merely mentions card games, which I believe is her area of interest, she finds sufficient cause to wipe the post and issue a warning to the user, even when they haven't uttered a single slur or insult, yet she remains completely silent when far more egregious violations occur, provided they don't involve her personally...

http://www.reddit.com/r/thread/199883&page=378

This is the specific thread where the arbitrary deletions and warnings took place without any legitimate justification; just look at the comment that caused a YouTube user to receive a red card, though much more evidence is lost because she has already scrubbed the posts...

It is my belief that moderators ought to remain objective and foster healthy debate—which is, after all, the entire purpose of this platform—rather than attempting to enforce a system where she maintains absolute authority over every topic, ensuring everything conforms to her preferences, while anyone who objects is automatically penalized. I honestly struggle to understand how individuals lacking such basic objectivity are appointed to these positions, as it seems clear she does not grasp her actual responsibilities, instead using the community as a tool to vent her own private frustrations...

To ensure I am not the only one troubled by her moderation style and her general approach, I could easily name at least five other people who feel exactly the same way...

Count me in on this protest against the moderator. Her whole approach and how she treats users is totally unacceptable. About a month or two ago, the exact same thing happened with at least ten posts and five different users; she was handing out bans in such an arrogant, condescending way. I even had a PM exchange with her myself, so feel free to check that out. Long story short, she doesn't deserve her position and needs to be replaced. If possible, a moderator should be from Australia. Her behavior is just indefensible... she needs to be kicked off the team.

Henry Moore2 said:Sorry I missed that post, I’ll go ahead and take care of the sanctions right now. Thanks for flagging it.

Seomag really earned himself a warning with those insults, but even though he took aim at me personally, I’m not asking you to punish him—I just want you to warn him that his constant behavior isn't acceptable. You, Henry Moore2, hold the authority here, which means you have the power, making you an authority figure that people like him actually listen to... But honestly, what you occasionally do is far worse than anything he does. You can be unfair and incredibly biased. I'm not trying to judge you, but I am asking you to correct the mistakes you've made. For instance, mimoza was the only person who actually stood up against Seomag's insults, and yet you ended up reprimanding her instead. In doing so, you're essentially emboldening the people who aren't being civil. So, I’m insisting that all assigned penalties be rescinded, and I mean right now.
I'll take this opportunity to add something else. These two threads about Australia just aren't what they should be without Vilk... He's a unique individual. Sometimes he lets his impulsiveness and stubbornness get the better of him, and occasionally he clashes with other members—I've had my own little "scuffles" with him, too—but I truly believe it happens in the heat of the moment, and once he has time to reflect, he feels bad because he isn't a vindictive person by nature. Since this forum means so much more to him than just some website, I'm asking everyone who has the influence to help lift his penalty and let him come back to us. I think he's learned his lesson from this situation... Let's test that together, please.

I don't want to sound biased, because I really am trying my best to tackle every issue the second it pops up. Life just got a little chaotic on my end over the last few months, so keeping up with every single thread hasn't been easy.
Honestly, I actually appreciate it when people send me a private message to let me know if I missed something. At the end of the day, this forum is a community, and we're all in this together.

Unfortunately, Vilko hasn't really taken anything to heart. We had a private discussion about him coming back, and the decision was made that he won't be returning.
Look, I get it—he’s a great source of info and he genuinely wants to help. But flooding threads with massive walls of text that have nothing to do with the topic, throwing out provocations, trolling, and just straight-up spamming? That's where I have to draw the line. Even after several warnings, nothing changed. There's nothing more I can do there, and I truly am sorry about that.

Henry Moore2 has stepped in a few times now, asking everyone to just chill out and reminding us that certain debates really don't belong in this specific thread. Since things kept heating up anyway, she issued one final warning, making it clear that if the bickering continues, she’s going to start handing out bans. Everyone got the memo, though clearly, a few folks decided to just tune her out entirely.

People are starting to bring up older incidents too, and honestly, it feels like we saw the exact same drama unfold in that thread about Australia. I actually remember jumping in once myself—I ended up locking a topic because the trolling was getting so out of hand within just a couple of hours! I had to step in because if I hadn't, I would have been forced to ban people myself just to keep the peace after they ignored the warnings.

At the end of the day, talking back to the mods or straight-up ignoring a warning is a direct violation of the rules and definitely subject to penalties. We can't have that here. That's exactly why we have this entire PDF laid out for the appeals process—to make sure threads don't get hijacked by people who aren't following the guidelines.

This is just people trying to flex their dominance, nothing else. I live in Australia, but honestly, this forum is losing its purpose. There's no real discussion or even healthy debate left, and without that, there's no way to actually build anything positive...

Best,

You are absolutely free to debate and express opposing views. In fact, we encourage it! But you cannot resort to insults, provocation, or breaking any of the other forum rules.

Perhaps Henry Moore2 could simply copy and paste the exact comment here that led to mimoza being banned—the specific remark that was supposedly offensive enough to warrant a warning, a yellow card, and eventually a full ban... so we can all judge for ourselves whether she actually deserved such treatment.

Furthermore, I have noticed that quite a few people living in Australia seem to be getting banned on this forum, and soon enough, when someone wants to ask a question regarding life in Australia, there won't be anyone left to answer, because those living in Australia will either end up banned or simply stop participating due to this style of moderation...

And I completely understand why they would feel that way (for instance, Nancy Jones91), because there is little reason for them to waste their time participating here when they have already relocated and achieved their goals, leaving them with very little to gain from these types of forums... people join out of pure goodwill to help one another, so instead of issuing bans and warnings over trivialities, perhaps they should be granted a bit more freedom...

It was also rightly pointed out that a moderator on the Diaspora forum really ought to be someone from the diaspora itself, as Henry Moore2, through this particular approach to moderating, seems to be creating more friction than they are resolving... merely escalating tensions by sanctioning individuals like mimoza, who truly did nothing wrong at all...

Since everyone just kept ignoring the initial warnings, Henry Moore2 finally stepped in and announced that anyone who keeps this up is getting banned. It didn't come out of nowhere, either—she made it crystal clear from the jump exactly what would happen if people didn't stop breaking the rules in this thread.

Honestly, I feel like we’ve pretty much ironed out all those PDF issues regarding this topic, which leads me to believe that the moderator isn't actually the one at fault here—especially since everything else seems to be running smoothly without these kinds of crazy escalations breaking out.

Someone please tell me exactly who I insulted or when I was trolling. All I did was make an ironic comment about her moderation style—that blatant arrogance and the constant need to flex her authority over everyone else... nothing more. Yet, I still got banned just for showing support for someone else's post. Pretty sure that's not against the rules here...

It feels pretty pointless to complain about the admins or any of those other big shots around here, because they all stick to that old rule where the fox is guarding the henhouse... Henry Moore2 just refuses to admit when they’ve messed up, and instead, they blame everyone else—especially the ones who actually have the nerve to call out blatant unfairness. Even the regular users who stand up for people end up catching heat, like VideoZid. The higher-ups just back their moderators blindly, and that's that. So why don't you guys just be honest with us and say:
"There are way too many of you, just a bunch of useless nuisances (even if that's what this forum is for), you're honestly exhausting and you just create extra work for us, so it would be best if everyone just cleared out by 3 p.m."
That would at least be transparent. As it stands, there's this whole manufactured illusion of democracy, free speech, civil rights, and minority protections, but it's all just a cheap, hollow farce since everything works the exact opposite way. Since I consider my own contributions to the threads I visit here to be pretty insignificant anyway, and nobody is going to miss me staying quiet, I might just reconsider whether it's time to fade into total obscurity regarding this forum... It'll probably give someone a little chuckle, which isn't the worst thing in the world. Well, 🙂 good luck to you all. 🙂

I mean, this has honestly become ridiculous. 🙄

Look, if you can't hold a civil conversation, you don't deserve anything more than a few days' suspension. From what I've seen during my time following and posting on the diaspora forums, there's constant friction whenever the topic of Australia comes up. Why? Who knows... 🤷

Also, I'm not sure how much this has to do with the specific topics or the people involved, but I've noticed that a lot of folks living in those areas—you know, Canada, Australia, Germany, etc.—can be pretty aggressive toward anyone just looking for info or trying to start a discussion.
All these forum members are great sources of vital, interesting info, but they really need to dial back the attitude.

Given the current state of affairs in America, it’s predictable that more and more people will head over, asking questions and seeking guidance. A lot of people can't see any path forward other than moving abroad.
But when they join an Australia thread and Vilko tears them apart about what they actually expect, or tells them that unemployment exists there too, or that their "knowledge" is useless because there are fifteen other requirements they haven't thought of... then they go to the Germany thread and get the same treatment from Actros or other users like MaliZeleni and Ivo R... well, of course people are going to be frustrated.

Dammit, things are rough in America right now and people want to emigrate, but a huge chunk of the feedback they get is: "Don't come here, it sucks here too." Even if they're talking about two completely different kinds of suck... you know what I mean. 🤷

brightpuma, you hit the nail right on the head. It starts with Australia and Canada, then Germany follows suit—it’s a total reign of terror against newcomers and moderators alike. They are insufferable, acting like they're untouchable. Honestly, it's embarrassing when people carry that kind of ego into their real lives and still claim to represent Americans. The constant noise, the endless drama, and the screaming matches in those three specific threads have been going on for years! The sheer amount of toxicity and bitterness thrown around, the public threats, the secret ones, the absolute horrors... I was honestly stunned when I first took on a moderator role for the diaspora.

The most pathetic part of this whole mess? The very same losers driving this entire trainwreck are the ones opening these threads, swarming like a pack of wolves to attack the moderator just because she’s doing her job. And she did it perfectly: strictly by the book, but with more humanity than was probably even necessary. When she responded, she was peaceful, clear, and polite—she even left room to admit if she were wrong (which she isn't) and offered an apology upfront just in case. But that doesn't matterrr... no, what matters is surrounding her and systematically attacking her on a personal level, over and over again. They drag the topic out as long as possible just so the whole world can see what terrible players they are, acting like Henry Moore2 isn't worth the breath it takes to speak her name.

Please, let’s not dwell on baseless assumptions... I am the one who initiated this entire discussion, yet I have only been a registered member of this forum for a single month, and I hardly know anyone here, much less the people you are implying I am connected to. This is quite literally my first thread, which means your theory falls apart before it even begins to take shape... If you find that hard to believe, you are more than welcome to examine my profile and review my posting history for yourself...

Who is she exactly, and where did she start making things personal?
It’s perfectly legitimate for any forum member to file a formal complaint against a moderator if they feel their moderation has caused them actual harm.

It seems to me like you have a massive problem with the appeals process.
Someone should have handed her a red card for trolling like that. It was completely uncalled for.

Unfortunately, yeah. Sometimes it feels like people just dump all their frustrations onto the forum. I get where they're coming from, to an extent, but I don't think we should let it slide.

The saddest part of this whole thing is that the very people driving this entire trainwreck are the ones starting these threads, attacking the moderator in packs just because she’s doing her job. And she did it perfectly: strictly by the rules, but with more humanity than was probably even necessary. She responded peacefully, clearly, and politely—even leaving room to admit if she were wrong (which she wasn't), apologizing in advance just in case.

Actually, looking at it now, she showed way more patience than most moderators I've dealt with during my "casting" days. There was a warning issued, and besides, you aren't supposed to critique moderators in the main threads; there's a specific section for that. In my view, they absolutely deserved the penalty.

Also, the fact that she left space for the possibility of being wrong says everything about her approach to moderating. I have a feeling some of these complainers would be pretty shocked if they tried that same approach on another feedback thread.

But that doesn't matter... right? It's all about surrounding her and systematically attacking her on a personal level, over and over. Dragging the topic out as long as possible so the whole world sees what "terrible players" they are, while claiming Henry Moore2 isn't worth the breath.

Honestly, I think this feedback section has grown too big for one person. Henry Moore2 could really use another moderator—maybe nominate a few good folks—to help manage things here.
I expect the situation will only get worse because the number of people using this thread is going to climb. Right now, migration to Canada through the WH program is surging, so more people are coming here for info, and that won't stop. Plus, as we move closer to more integration within the EU, more doors are opening, so more people will be hitting this thread looking for immigration advice.

Look, we saw those deleted posts.

The mimoza user got flagged because they just wouldn't stop picking fights with the moderation team and bickering with the other sanctioned users on the thread, even after Henry Moore2 gave several warnings to drop it. Honestly, the mods messed up here, and the penalties they handed out were totally justified given the situation.

The sole reason mimoza felt the need to address the moderation was that Henry Moore2 initiated a warning unnecessarily at the very beginning, given that there was no insult intended toward her, yet she apparently took everything personally, which suggests a complete lack of objectivity... However, it is clear that you all have already made up your minds and have no intention of revisiting the sanction, so as far as I am concerned, you may close this thread, and I will be the first to announce that I will no longer be participating in this community, as I see there is simply no point...

Instead, I shall make sure to represent the moderation team from this site in the most glowing light possible on all the other platforms where I am active. That is all from me. Regards.

Look, mimoza wrote a post that Henry Moore2 might have misread or taken the wrong way—and I’ll be the first to admit the user definitely wasn't trying to be insulting—but that doesn't change the fact that the thread had turned into a nasty back-and-forth. The communication was getting pretty unpleasant, and someone had to step in and shut it down. If mimoza felt there was an issue with how things were being moderated, the right move would have been to send a private message or bring it up in the official feedback section, rather than cluttering up the main discussion. That's exactly what was suggested, but it was ignored, and that's when the sanctions finally kicked in.

That warning about the mimosa was actually aimed at those comments about "Americans," not me.

I’m sorry, but I just can't sit here and let this kind of nonsense pass without saying something... If someone was—to put it mildly—mocking that term (and they absolutely were), then it wasn't mimozuu being the problem. So, anyone claiming otherwise is either completely blind or being painfully dishonest. At this rate, we'll probably hear next that someone on YouTube was being insulted, too. Honestly... it's just exhausting...
