So, a buddy of mine picked up a Dell Latitude about five days ago, and I just finished getting Windows 7 Professional set up on it yesterday.
Right out of the gate, we’re hitting two major snags.
1 - Our router is sitting in the living room, and when I took the laptop into the bedroom—only about 20 feet away—it claimed there was absolutely no wireless connection available. If I lug the thing right next to the router, maybe half a foot away, it finally connects, but the signal strength is pathetic, just one lonely little bar.
We actually took the laptop over to a friend's place to test it, and it’s the exact same story; even standing by his router, the signal is weak, and the second you move a few feet away, the wireless connection just vanishes.
2 - Then there's the TV issue. We tried hooking the laptop up to a brand-new smart TV using an HDMI cable—tried both HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 ports—but it just keeps flashing "no signal."
And yeah, the same thing happens when we try it on my friend's TV too.

In our house, we have three different laptops, and they all work perfectly fine; you plug them into the TV via HDMI and the screen pops up instantly.
Anyone have any idea what might be going on here?

1. If you’ve already downloaded the exact drivers from the manufacturer’s site for Windows 7 and they match your specific Wi-Fi module perfectly—but the laptop is still acting up—just take it back to the store and demand a replacement.

2.

- Use an Ethernet cable that you actually know works.
- Make sure your TV is set to the right input.
- Ensure the correct drivers are installed on the laptop and check if you need to toggle the video output settings.
- Double-check the HDMI versions on both ends and the cable itself; sometimes version mismatches cause headaches. For instance, if the TV is running HDMI 1.0 and the laptop is way more advanced, the TV might not even see the signal. It's a long shot, but it happens.

And honestly, there's always the chance the HDMI port is just dead...

My laptop only grabs an internet connection when I'm practically sitting on top of the router—like, one meter away—and even then, I’m barely getting a single bar of signal. The second I move an inch away, the connection just dies completely.
I'm not out here manually hunting down drivers or anything; Windows 7 usually handles all that installation stuff on its own.

We even swapped out two different HDMI cables to troubleshoot, but we're still hitting the exact same wall.

Just make sure you download the drivers directly from the manufacturer's official website for your laptop.

Look, some laptops from 2014 didn't even have Windows 7 drivers, let alone modern hardware. At this point, you just grab whatever works—install Windows 8.1 and move on.

If you can't find the specific drivers and someone is absolutely insisting on using Windows 7, there's a little workaround: just grab the drivers from a similar laptop that actually has Windows 7 support, and they usually work just fine.

I just grabbed the official drivers straight from the manufacturer's site and everything's running smoothly now.
Thanks
